What it's about

An exciting new opportunity has arisen in our Group Print and Operations (GPAO) department for a Group Print Manager to join the team. As Group Print Manager you will be responsible for the day to day operational delivery and governance of Cambridge Assessment's Print Partner, Canon.

The role includes service delivery and issue resolution at both DC10 and DC20 for this high value contract. As the Group Print Manager you will be the main support function to the Head of Print Operations. The ability to work independently is a must, as is being responsible for making important decisions, however, support from senior management will be available,

A major aspect of the governance role required is performance management and data validation for which you will be responsible for.

As Group Print Manager you will be able to develop and expand on current skills within this ever-changing environment, being a key influencer to not only the business but also the contracts in place.

What you'll be doing


• To be the point of contact between all Business Units and the Print Partner to ensure the services provided remain aligned to the needs of the Business Units and all work produced meets the requirements in terms of quality, security, service, cost and time.

• To chair weekly operational meetings in order to monitor supplier performance and Business Unit adherence to forecasts and schedules.

• Identify any significant changes to forecasts and / or schedules and provide updates to the Pre and Post Exams Teams in GPAO and Finance when appropriate.

• To monitor any issues raised by the Business Units to ensure these are investigated and resolved in a timely matter and act as the escalation point when required.

• To review all issues raised each month to identify any opportunities for improvement.

• To effectively manage relationships between the Business Units and the Print Partner on a day-to-day basis in an open and constructive manner in order to resolve or ease tensions between the parties.

• To work with the Pre and Post Exams Teams in GPAO to support efficiencies in supply chain management and proactively work with colleagues and the Business Units to achieve operational improvements and cost reduction without adversely affecting security, quality or delivery of services.

Operational Risk and Contractual Compliance Management

• Ensure operational contractual compliance in terms of annual reviews, change control and audits through close working relationships with the GPAO Risk and Compliance Manager and the Print Partner's Business Assurance and Change Manager. The main objective being to ensure all parties remain aligned regarding changes to policies (internal and regulatory) and following annual audits.

• To manage and resolve risk associated with third-party service delivery, identifying and controlling (by avoiding or minimising) the risk to the print service, and ensuring that business continuity and contingency plans are in place and maintained.

• Attend compliance meetings (e.g. Health & Safety; Security, GDPR, Business Continuity) to ensure GPAO and the Print Partner remain aligned and compliant across DC10 and DC20 sites.

• Support the work to be undertaken during any tendering or contract renewal process.

GPAO Senior Management Team (SMT)

• To provide support to the Head of Print Operations and act as the main point of contact during any periods of absence.

• To work and communicate effectively with colleagues and departments in GPAO enhancing service and representing the Head of Print Operations as required.

• To ensure that management reporting procedures are agreed, implemented and controlled so that appropriate and accurate information in relation to the Print contract is reported and overall performance and service levels can be effectively monitored.

• To seek continuous improvement by recommending changes where appropriate.

  • Graduate calibre preferably with post graduate qualification or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of devising service levels and performance measures.
  • Project management techniques.
  • Awareness of all types of print and digital print equipment

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to problem-solve.
  • Financial awareness sufficient to manage and review costs and charges.
  • Ability to manage risks.

  • Experience of working in high quality and high volume pressured environments.

  • Print production: digital and litho
  • Print procurement and Supply Chain operations
  • Logistics including international couriers
  • Quality control
  • Managing external and in-house suppliers / contractual partner relationships
  • Managing issues and disputes in relation to contractual issues
  • Proven experience of working in a fast-moving environment where ability to deliver is paramount and experience gained within a customer-focussed environment
