BTA (Bruce Tait Associates) are delighted to be working with IFDAS (Independence From Drugs & Alcohol Scotland) in their search for a Chief Executive.
Scotland has the worst drugs death statistics in Europe. The number of people losing their lives has doubled in the past 13 years. Liver disease now accounts for one in fifty of all Scottish deaths while alcohol-related deaths in Scotland have increased by 100% since 1994 and are also now officially the highest in Europe.
A new organisation has been born which gives hope to those who face an endless cycle of rehabilitation and slipping back into addiction.
IFDAS, Independence from Drugs and Alcohol Scotland, is offering Scotland a ground breaking new way to tackle this issue. The model is drawn from highly successful, similar programmes in other countries and is based on providing an appropriate residential setting and building a community for recovery.
In this case, the site is the stunningly beautiful and peaceful River Garden in Ayrshire. The method revolves around abstinence, trust within firm boundaries, mutual support, respect for life and responsibility with social enterprise at the heart of creating productive and self-sustaining lives. Residents are invited to stay for a 3 year period and are offered support and meaningful activity to help them get into long-term recovery. The social enterprise model helps them achieve this through work, where they use their skills to earn a living or learn new skills so they can stand on their own two feet on leaving the programme.
The charity was officially registered in 2013 and will have 10 residents in its first phase. The Scottish Government has contributed to the start-up costs of such an important project to allow the charity to appoint its first Chief Executive to develop the work and make this a highly successful, efficient and financially robust organisation.
If you care deeply about those caught up in the cycle and misery of addiction and have experience of running a successful business or social enterprise then please consider this as your next career move. You will need to have excellent leadership skills, significant business acumen, be prepared to be as operational as you are strategic given the small team at IFDAS and be willing to challenge the status quo. In addition you will be tenacious, resilient, imaginative and, above all, an inspirational leader.
This search is being conducted exclusively on behalf of IFDAS by BTA. If you think this is a perfect match for your values and skills set then please contact BTA as soon as possible for further information prior to making your application.
