Teaching Assistants for Behavioural Unit In SEN School

Affinity Workforce Solutions are currently working closely with a secondary school which caters for and supports children with Autism & Social, Emotional & Mental Health Difficulties who are looking to recruit Teaching Assistants to support the new intake of children they have starting after the Easter break.

Many of the students who arrive at this school have had very difficult experiences both in and out of school in the past, so the school are looking for staff who are calm, kind and compassionate. Building upon this the school have put in place a curriculum that is practical and vocational, tailored to each individual students' strengths.

The aim of the school is to help students reconnect with education so that they can make progress to become successful adults. To do this the school use a reflective and restorative process rather than the detention and exclusion methods. This reflective and restorative process is used to help students understand how they are doing socially and academically, what is going well for them and how they can move forward.

This school is determined that students will leave the school with academic outcomes that reflect the best of their abilities and that socially they are able to sustain relationships, employment and healthy households.

The school are open to considering candidates who do not have prior experience as there is full training provided. They are also interested to hear from people who come from the following backgrounds;

· Sports Coaches

· Psychology Graduates

· Ex-Military

· Artists

· Musicians

· University Graduates (any discipline)

Alongside the above, If you have previous experience as a Teacher or Teaching Assistant or want to pursue a career in teaching or similar field, we hope you will consider joining this strong team.

To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate your desire to work with young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties & Special Educational Needs (SEN) and associated difficulties or come from a similar type of background. The successful person will be working across the curriculum as a teaching assistant so will need to be able to manage with a constantly changing and evolving work load.

For those starting out in education you will receive valuable in class experience by supporting the teacher in setting up classrooms, assisting pupils with their work and engaging in extracurricular activities such as after school tuition, alongside this there is a fantastic training programme in place to gain qualifications within this field. For those who have worked within Education previously and are looking for the next step, this school is a Teacher Training Academy and can help you with this path.


· Experience in working with children. This may include caring, coaching, mentoring, youth work, community work or volunteering in schools, we are also happy to consider applicants who have personal experience of working with individual with additional needs for example family members.

· Able to adapt to an ever-changing work load.

· Attending review meetings.

· Target setting with teaching and other support staff.
