Job Purpose

To develop, deliver and continuously improve a comprehensive suite of leadership and professional training services to internal and external clients in support of Network Rail’s strategic business requirements.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Establish specifications for professional training courses, that develop the Leadership skills and behaviours required to deliver the company strategy and business plans and fit the various cultures across the organisation.

  2. Manage the training and development provision within the defined budget for managers and professional staff ensuring that the focus for delivery is on the strategic business need for Network Rail.

  3. Manage the provision of training services by external suppliers and support Contracts & Procurement activities. Additionally, manage external suppliers to improve service levels, reduce cost and increase alignment with strategic objectives.

  4. Develop where appropriate, with Functional Heads, qualifications that meet the requirements of the business and the regulator.

  5. Provide input in relation to the development of training policy and strategy initiatives, both internally within Network Rail and externally, within the railway industry as a whole.

  6. Apply best practice principles in relation to the design, development, delivery and evaluation of all management and professional learning and training solutions. Undertake analysis to produce initiatives for ongoing efficiencies and enhanced competitiveness.

  7. Lead the development and delivery of bespoke specialist business solutions, including supporting the identification of preferred suppliers.

  8. Lead a team responsible for the planning and delivery of professional development programmes.

  9. Support the Head of Leadership Development to develop productive relationships within business units to secure accurate training demand aligned to customer targets and objectives.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Expertise in designing and delivering corporate level management and professional training

  • Leadership and hands-on management skills developed in a change orientated business environment.

  • Dynamic, challenging characteristics with strong customer responsive attitude.

  • High-level commercial awareness

  • Tangible demonstration of the NR behaviours

Desirable

  • Multi sector management development experience especially in private and customer-focused organisations.

  • Project management and business planning skills

  • Railway experience beneficial, but not essential

  • Appreciation of competence management systems

  • Experience of developing customer relationships in an internal service environment

  • High-level budgetary management experience

We adhere to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the following pay range: £42336 - £47628

Network Rail is required to comply with UK Government standards when carrying out pre-employment checks for all new starters; this includes a basic criminal record check. In addition to the basic criminal record check, in accordance with the UK Government we are also required to verify your identity, right to work in the UK and previous three years employment history.
