Multi-Skilled Operative (Core Trade Joiner) 

Salary: Circa £24,000-£28,000 
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent 
Hours: 39 hours per week 
Location: Greater Manchester - South

About the role: 

The multi skilled operative will be responsible for carrying out property maintenance including void works to a wide variety of property types across the Great Places housing stock. Operatives should have a core trade in either Plastering or Joinery with experience of all trades to ensure a 1st time fix. 

The multi-skilled Operative is a key role to deliver a wide range of Responsive Maintenance activities to a diverse customer base for Great Places Housing Group. As a competent tradesperson undertaking a range of building maintenance, you will be part of a multi-trade team of well trained and motivated staff who are receptive to continuous improvement and dedicated to the delivery of the annual repairs and improvement services. The purpose of the job is to provide an outstanding, “right first time” service to customers, by providing a flexible and efficient response to deliver a wide range of building maintenance and improvement work. 

Key aspects of the role are to: ensure and deliver excellent customer service; achieve a ‘first time fix’ through correct diagnosis, multi-trade working and an effective relationship with the supply chain; liaise with Customers, the Responsive Repairs Manager & Supervisory staff, Customer Services staff and a multi-trade workforce to ensure consistency of approach; adopt a flexible working style to accommodate Great Places approach to customer service; adopt and promote the Great Places operating principles for Responsive Maintenance within a multi-trade team; maintain an effective channel of communication with Customer Services staff and a multi-trade workforce; engage with and promote the lead measures of performance across the Responsive Maintenance service. 

About You: 

The successful candidate will have at least three years’ experience in the built environment, across all trades as well as evidence of delivering first class customer service in responsive maintenance and the supply chain associated with responsive maintenance. 

You will have a minimum NVQ level 2 or equivalent recognised competency in Plastering or level 3 in Joinery and be able to diagnose and prioritise specific work activities and tasks. You should have experience of working across all trades within the domestic sector and the ability to undertake tasks outside of the core trade from start to completion. 

A Full Driving Licence and flexibility are desirable. 


- An understanding of responsive maintenance within social housing 
- NVQ or equivalent in Maintenance Operations (multi-skilled work activities associated with core trade) 
- Apprentice trained 
- Mobile working through job allocation and data transfer via ICT (hand-held device etc.) 
- Knowledge of construction related Health, Safety & Welfare legislation 
- Understanding of value for money 
- Setting and achieving realistic timescales 
- Considerate to potentially sensitive issues
