After a hugely successful initial programme in 2018, we are again partnering with Women Returners for our Career Returners Programme for professionals who are looking to return to work after an extended career break.

About Technology at the Bank of England

Work for an organisation steeped in history with a front row seat for the digitalisation of the financial sector, and the rise of fintech and regtech.

A core organisational strength, with people at our centre, Technology enables the Bank of England to deliver its mission by providing a hugely diverse set of technical solutions and platforms. From supporting critical systems which underpin the UK economy, to evolving data analytics, reinventing our online presence, and introducing a fully digital workplace, be part of a team that’s constantly evolving, just like our industry.

We take pride in our people, with backgrounds and experiences as diverse as the solutions they provide. You’ll enjoy flexible working opportunities, a strong sense of community and well-being, and a collective mission to promote the good of the people of the UK. All of which add up to make the Bank a hugely rewarding place to work.

What you can expect

  • The Career Returners Programme offers a paid placement of six months, starting in September 2019, and the possibility of a permanent role at the end of the assignment.
  • Roles will be on offer in a number of areas across Technology such as:
  • Delivery Management
  • Project Management
  • Business Analysis
  • Roles will be located in the Bank’s London offices (Threadneedle Street and Moorgate)
  • You will receive coaching support from Women Returners to help you to transition successfully back into the workplace.
  • Flexible working options are available, including part-time working

The challenge

Our highly skilled and passionate technologists work across every part of the technology lifecycle, from high-level architecture, system development or end-user support, to project delivery and governance.

You’ll join a team that focuses on delivering high-quality products and service, who analyse business requirements and deliver change that matters to the UK economy. You’ll also have the opportunity to build the senior-level relationships you’ll need to influence change.

Your work will be high profile and complex and will involve making sound judgements and decisions. The insight into the workings of the financial sector you gain will be unique. The Bank’s openness to flexible working will ensure that you can maintain a healthy work/life balance.

Who the Bank is looking for

The Programme is aimed at people who have had a career break of two or more years.

For all levels of role, you must have a professional background working in either Technology, Business Analysis or Project Management, have good analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a dedicated team. Effective communication skills and the ability to influence others are vital as well as the ability to manage other important priorities/projects alongside your day-to-day tasks.

The current Technology team includes people from a range of industry backgrounds such as financial services, telecommunications, civil service and the military.

The Bank is absolutely committed to having an inclusive environment. We are keen to receive applications from all candidates who might be interested in working flexibly.

The opportunity

Salary will vary depending on the type of role taken and the level of experience and will fall within a range of £48,000 - £52,000. In addition to base salary, you will be eligible for an extensive benefits package (including non-contributory pension scheme, 7% benefits allowance, private medical and income protection insurance, 25 days annual leave with option to buy up to 13 additional days, plus others).

Closing date for applications: 26th April 2019
