The Bank of England ‘s Legal Directorate is partnering with Women Returners to launch their Career Returners Programme for lawyers who are looking to return to work after an extended career break. Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available.

The initial roles will be a paid placement of six months, with the possibility of a permanent role at the end of the assignment.

Successful hires who have taken a career break of two years or more will receive coaching support through the transition period from Women Returners. About the Legal Directorate

The Legal Directorate performs a wide-ranging legal advisory and support role for the Bank of England. It works closely with business areas across the Bank and the Prudential Regulation Authority on a wide range of key UK and international issues, covering areas such as current and prospective UK and EU legislation, banking and market operations, financial stability, prudential regulation and supervision, financial market infrastructure supervision, resolution, enforcement and litigation.

The Legal Directorate usually provides legal advice in-house but engages external counsel as necessary.  It comprises a General Counsel and approximately 140 other staff; and is fully supportive of part-time and flexible working.

 

What you can expect

  • The Career Returners Programme offers a paid placement of six months, starting in September 2019, and the possibility of a permanent role at the end of the assignment.
  • Roles will be located in the Bank’s Threadneedle Street offices.

We welcome lawyers with previous experience in any of these areas. No prior experience of working in-house or in the public sector is required. Many of the areas of the law that our lawyers advise on are unique to the Bank and full support and training will be provided to help with the transition from private practice or chambers’ disciplines.

The legal work is often high profile, frequently complex, and sometimes entirely unique, but the Legal Directorate is a collegiate team, working collaboratively and sharing information and insights freely, with tried and tested induction processes which will ensure new colleagues can get up to speed quickly.
