The Golden Jubilee Foundation is unique within the NHS. A national institution, independently run by its own NHS Board, they have re-defined the concept of the public hospital, with a vision of "Leading Quality, Research and Innovation" for NHSScotland.

As a national NHS Board in Scotland, the Golden Jubilee Foundation's modern, purpose built environment, combines a first-class hospital with the four-star facilities in our conference hotel, and centres for research, clinical skills and innovation. In addition, a charitable body has been set up to create a new approach to funding innovation and research.

Our current Medical Director is retiring and the organisation now seeks to appoint a successor. With circa 1800 staff, capital assets of £135M and research income of around £5M, this is an exciting and challenging remit.

Amongst other things, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous experience / knowledge of:
• Provision of strong, visible medical leadership and management.
• Leading, motivating and inspiring medical staff to ensure the delivery of clinical strategies and the achievement of corporate goals underpinned by the core values and principles of the profession with patients/service users at the forefront of that.
• A strong proven record in corporate governance including strategy development
• A previous operational role in the leadership, development and delivery of an effective medical workforce with specific emphasis on service delivery, clinical governance, job planning and objective setting.
• A strong background in Research and Development working in partnership with higher education institutions, maximising research, funding opportunities and translating research findings into improved practice and services for patients
• Integrating and aligning professional/clinical programmes and strategies with the strategic direction of the organisation.
• An understanding of the role of the Responsible Officer within the terms of the Medical Profession (Responsible Officers) (Amendment) Regulations 2013
• Leading medical workforce planning, undergraduate education and postgraduate training of doctors
• Knowledge of national policy issues and professional practice.

You will have a MB ChB Degree with specialist post graduate qualification, have current registration with the General Medical Council (GP or Specialty Register) and hold a current licence to practice. You will also be on the GMC Specialist Register and have membership/fellowship of a Royal College.

Your career to date should include considerable post qualification experience together with significant strategic leadership experience in the NHS or similar complex multidisciplinary public or private sector organisation. It is also desirable (but not essential) that you have previous experience as a Medical Director.

Interview date: 26 and 27 June 2019.
