Financial & Management Accountant

Full time permanent position, based in Basildon.

We are looking for an experienced accountant to join our finance team. Reporting to our financial controller, this is a varied and interesting role and you will work on a wide range of financial and management accounting activities including treasury transactions and audit. You will be providing support to the finance department, senior management and the wider business.

About our business: For over 30 years, we have focused on the provision and distribution of high-quality and affordable branded, specialty and generic medicines. We supply a strong range of generic and branded pharmaceutical products, supported by a network of partners and in-house services, including our own distribution and logistics solution.

The role:
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly management accounts - P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, with comparatives, budgets variance analysis and commentaries.
  • Responsible for Treasury duties (e.g. payments, month-end reconciliations and processes).
  • Responsible for VAT, Intrastat, EC Sales List and ONS duties.
  • Assistance with statutory audits, liaising with external auditors, preparing annual corporation tax packs and supporting schedules.
  • Maintaining the fixed assets register and associated fixed asset module in the SAGE ERP.
  • Monthly preparation of stock and sales reports.
  • Accounting for all stock movements and preparing monthly stock valuations.
  • Participating in intercompany reconciliations and recharges and agreeing with colleagues in other group companies.
  • Reconciling balance sheet accounts.
  • Assistance with preparing annual financial statements and relevant audit schedules.
  • Preparing ad-hoc and monthly information and reporting as required.

What we are looking for:
  • Fully qualified or part qualified in ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft packages to advanced level, particularly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Query (SQL).
  • Strong data analysis, budgeting & forecasting skills.
  • Previous experience of working in an FMCG, ideally a pharmaceutical company.
  • Highly numerate & analytical.
  • Good working knowledge of VAT, Treasury and cash controls.
  • Experience of working within a multi-currency accounting environment.
  • The ability to explain complex financial information in a clear way.
  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Natural attention to detail and the ability to maintain very high standards while working to tight deadlines.
