Specialty Doctor with CESR training

Emergency Medicine

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the small and friendly Emergency Department at Harrogate District Hospital which has a reputation for excellence. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide support and a comprehensive acute care service within the Trust.

Do you want a job that you enjoy and will further your career?

Do you want to work in a happy, friendly department with people who strive to provide the highest quality patient care?

Do you want to work in a beautiful town surrounded by world famous countryside which has been voted the happiest place to live for the past 3 years?

Why not come and see for yourself what Harrogate has to offer?

You will be joining a team of 11 HST & Specialty doctors on an established CESR training program. Our CESR posts have been created specifically to give doctors with previous experience and a keen interest in Emergency Medicine the opportunity to develop their career through a tailored training programme.

The programme takes approximately 4 years to complete depending on previous experience and will culminate in the requisite skills, experience and portfolio to support an application for a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) through the GMC. The ultimate aim being to establish a career as a fully accredited consultant in Emergency Medicine. Our CESR scheme has been running successfully now for approximately 3 years with current trainees making excellent progress. This post would commence Spring 2019 on a mutually agreeable date.

The posts are based at Harrogate and District Hospital and have been designed to give the post holder the opportunity to acquire essential competencies in both emergency medicine and relevant allied specialties (paediatrics, acute medicine, anaesthetics and ITU). The programme also includes a teaching programme which parallels the Emergency medicine curriculum and HST training consisting of weekly teaching sessions along with self-directed learning during the equivalent of ½ day per week.

There will also be the opportunity to deliver teaching as part of the regional training programme, participate in our active research team and undertake some pre-hospital care if this is of interest and relevance to the individual. Each individual will have their training needs assessed and a programme created specifically around that in conjunction with their colleagues' training needs. Rotations to other specialties will last 4 months and the rest of the year will be spent improving emergency medicine skills and acquiring further experience in the emergency department.

The rota provides 24 hr cover with 3:10 weekends worked on an 11.75 PA basis. There are also additional weekend day time sessions which can be worked on a voluntary basis to enhance earnings. You will be joining a cohesive team led by 8 consultants (6WTE) with a wide breadth of teaching experience and backgrounds.

Successful applicants should have completed a significant length of time in postgraduate training in emergency medicine and/or other relevant specialties. If you would like to find out more, please call Dr Victoria Holloway, consultant, emergency medicine on 01423 557384. We would also be happy for you to chat to our current specialty doctors based in the department which can be arranged.

We are an Equal Opportunities Employer and are signatories of the Mindful Employer Charter which underlines our commitment to enhancing the emotional wellbeing of all staff. This commitment begins when you apply to work at our organisation. We will support individuals through reasonable adjustments both at interview and during ongoing employment. In line with the principles of flexible working and improving work life balance, all advertised full time posts will be considered for job share or part time.

We take pride in being a partner organisation in the Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Research Network and are committed to supporting research activity as part of the services we provide. We have research projects running across all specialties which are providing evidence and informing local and national practice.

Applicants who require Tier 2 immigration status to work in the UK are welcome, but such candidates will not be appointed to the post if there are a sufficient number of other suitable candidates as the employing body will in those circumstances be unable to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test, as required by UKBI.
In view of recent changes to Home Office Immigration Regulations, all applicants must state their current immigration status, including expiry dates.

All job offers are subject to Agenda for Change T&C's, excluding medical posts. Offers may also be subject to a Standard or Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate, dependent on the position.

In submitting an application form, you authorise Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust to confirm any previous NHS service details via the ESR IAT process should you be appointed.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
