Communities Coordinator (Dementia Charity)

Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. We provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.

Position: Dementia Friendly Communities Coordinator
Location: Halifax (commutable from Bradford, Huddersfield, Leeds and surrounding areas)
Contract type: Part time, Permanent
Hours: 28 per week
Salary: £17,706 actual per annum

This is an exciting opportunity to continue to work towards making Bradford more dementia-friendly. In creating more dementia-friendly communities we aim to promote independence for people living with dementia.

As a Dementia Friendly Community Coordinator in Bradford and District, you will:

-Encourage communities and organisations to produce an action plan and sign up to the Society’s Dementia Friendly Community’s recognition process.
-Advocate for the voices of people affected by dementia to be included in all Dementia Friendly Communities part of the recognition process in Bradford and District.
-Ensure existing Dementia Friendly Communities (DFC) that are a part of the recognition process in the District adopt a sustainable approach by linking in with peer communities and other organisations.
-Support the creation of Bradford Dementia Friendly Community steering group.

This role is part of the Community Engagement Team, which sits within Campaigns & Partnerships Directorate. You will report to the Dementia Friendly Communities Officer, and work closely with other colleagues including Dementia Friends Officer, Regional Public Affairs and Campaigns Officer and Operations Team.

About you:

You will be speaking to people at all levels across your area, so great influencing skills are essential.

You will be picking up from existing work, so you must be able to implement agreed outcomes. You must also have the ability to manage several tasks at once and keep yourself motivated to perform under pressure.

You will be committed to putting people affected by dementia at the heart of everything we do, and encourage communities to include their voices.

Experience of working with statutory and voluntary agencies in this particular region will be of benefit.
