The Island

One of the most instantly recognisable landmarks in the country, St Michael's Mount is a National Trust property, family home, island community and entrancing visitor destination all in one.

The estate

St Aubyn Estates has been part of the West Cornwall landscape for more than 600 years. Lord and Lady St Levan and their senior team are at the helm of this family owned enterprise spanning 5,000 acres with a diverse portfolio of businesses which include land and property management, tourism and hospitality, building and farming. Lord and Lady St Levan live on St Michael's Mount, which they run in partnership with the National Trust.

The role

You will report directly to the Chief Executive of St Aubyn Estates and run all aspects of the business on St Michael's Mount as well as managing the team on a day-to-day basis to deliver a memorable visitor experience and to achieve the financial targets in the commercial areas. The two key focuses of this role are commercial management of the various businesses and the continuous improvement of the visitor experience.

You will provide clear direction for the Visitor Business (Castle and Garden) including the Car Parks situated on the mainland, the commercial enterprises as well as having oversight of certain National Trust operations. The community on St Michael's Mount is 30+ strong and defined by a real passion and commitment to the island and its way of life and the 350,000 visitors who make their way to visit us here from all over the world. Life here follows a cyclical pattern with the main visitor months being April through to the end of October when the island community is joined each day by at least 90+ seasonal staff who help look after our visitors and create a magical day out.

You

Proven relevant experience in a similar business (over 200,000 visitors or significant senior hospitality management) is essential. As a leader of a large team of customer facing people you will possess leadership skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. You will have excellent organisational skills, enjoy challenging situations and focussing on the operational detail while being able to create a positive and innovative working atmosphere. You will be able to demonstrate to the interview panel that you have sound commercial and business acumen. On top of your commercial and operational expertise, you will have a contagious passion for delivering exceptional standards, service and storytelling in a customer facing environment.
