The role

This is a key role within the Element Materials Technology European Shared Service Centre which is located at Newbridge on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The European Shared Service Centre performs a key role supporting accounting and transactional finance for Element businesses across Europe including UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Netherlands and Czech Republic. The European Shared Service Centre is the Centre of Excellence for Shared Services within the group and continues to lead the process excellence agenda across the group.

This role is a senior role within the Shared Service Finance team and will sit alongside a number of specialist subject matter experts covering the areas of Transaction Processing, Statutory Accounts, VAT, Corporation Tax, Controls, Treasury, Systems and Projects. As the group continues to grow, the European Shared Service Centre will continue to grow and develop as a valued partner to the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the monthly accounting cycle, reviewing balance sheet and income statement accounts and financial reporting in accordance with IFRS; provision of fiscal support for European entities, incl. preparation of statutory accounts and returns and VAT returns; leading treasury related processes including cashflow forecasting; and supporting the process excellence journey through identification and delivery of continuous improvement initiatives and integration projects

You will be involved in but not restricted to the following duties:
  • Jointly with the Finance Manager - Operations manage month end accounting cycle and core deliverables for group reporting
  • Support Group actual, planning and forecasting processes as they relate to the shared service entity
  • Maintaining effective accounting controls (including preparation & review of reconciliations) Lead treasury accounting related processes including preparation and management of cashflow forecasts
  • Provision of fiscal support for European entities, incl. preparation of statutory accounts and returns; VAT returns and National Statistics returns
  • Support annual tax reporting requirements for group tax and audit
  • Manage internal and external audit processes as they relate to the entities covered by European Shared Services team
  • Provide support and input to continued expansion of the scope of Shared Services within Europe
  • Identification, delivery and promotion of continuous improvement initiatives

Candidate Requirements:
  • Qualified accountant (CA, ACA, ACCA, ACMA)
  • Proven track record of strong technical accounting skills
  • Extensive knowledge of IFRS and UK GAAP
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • A keen eye for detail
  • Proactive and effective communicator
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and be adept at interacting with individuals at all levels in the organisation
  • Drive and motivation to ensure self and team succeeds in achieving fixed and demanding deadlines
  • Displays a 'can-do' mentality which is focussed on targets and deadlines
  • Persists in overcoming obstacles
  • A self-starter; does not wait for others to solve problems
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and work within a fast paced, changing environment
