We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, friendly and talented Finance Assistant and Clerk to Governors.

From the 1st September 2019, Smarden Preschool will be joining Smarden Primary School, building on an already successful partnership. We have taken this opportunity to look at the structure of our busy office and now wish to combine the role of the clerk to the governing body with that of a Finance Assistant. These two positions complement each other perfectly as they need the same skills of being meticulously organised as well as the ability to establish positive relationships and work to deadlines.

The post is a permanent position and you will be contracted to work ten hours per week in school and be part of the administrative team, led by the Business Manager. Hours of work are flexible across the week, however ideally these will be worked as two days per week. This is an exciting opportunity to join the fantastic team at our lovely school.

Finance Assistant:
  • To provide financial and admin support to the Business Manager

Clerk's role:
  • The Clerk's role is crucial in supporting the work of the Governing Body and requires very strong organisational, personal and administrative skills.

The preparation of agendas and papers for meetings, the taking and writing up of minutes, dealing with governor correspondence, acting as custodian of records and liaising with TKAT for advice when appropriate.

Information about the school

Founded in 1716, the original school building can still be seen in our village. The current building at the front dates back to 1858. In academic year 2014/2015, the school underwent extensive refurbishment and new building works. This was a wonderful opportunity for the school and was part of the Priority School Building Programme. New, large classrooms were built to the rear of the old building and we are now able to deliver a 21st century learning environment which includes a new single-storey building, a new link corridor connecting the 2 buildings together and a new outdoor space with provision for games, social use and outdoor classrooms. We aim for our children to develop lifelong skills, the ability to take responsibility for their own learning so that they can face future challenges with confidence. We pride ourselves on providing a happy, caring, supportive and positive learning atmosphere where each child can achieve success. We actively encourage partnership between parents and our local community.
