West Sussex County Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Social Worker to join our Fostering Recruitment Team in Horsham as part of an on-going commitment to increase our in-house fostering resources.

In a challenging time of high need for placements, the Fostering Recruitment Team provides a county wide service promoting the need for more high quality foster carers, responding to enquiries and undertaking Fostering assessments. You will have a history of working on complex assessments including Fostering, Adoption, and Special Guardianship or parenting assessments. You should have excellent report writing skills and be able to present your reports verbally to relevant panels. West Sussex is currently using both Signs of Safety and Secure Base models and experience or understanding of these models would be preferred. You will need to be able to meet quality assurance requirements and work with pace and purpose to achieve panel submission dates.

Our practice framework is based on Signs of Safety underpinned by knowledge of attachment and the impact of developmental trauma on children and families - all staff receive training and support to implement these approaches. Reflective supervision is well embedded in our team ethos, along with support to achieve continued professional development with access to a wide range of training and other resources.

The Fostering Recruitment Team is an exciting and high performing team to be part of. We are well established and dedicated to completing robust and evidence based assessments, sometimes complex and always interesting, in order to meet the needs of our Children Looked After, who are at the core of our work. It is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a creative team within Children' Services, which is recognised positively for contributing to good outcomes for our children. On occasions, members of the team support other parts of the Service by taking on other assessments, for example; SGO, Family and Friends foster carers, Supported Lodgings providers and you will need to be prepared to use your skills and experience in this way as required.
