Mearns View is a brand new, forward thinking service supporting 5 young men with Autism within the Newton Mearns area. The service is made up of Autism Practitioners delivering high quality specialised support to assist the young men in fulfilling their full potential. The service is committed to empowering and supporting people with autism, enabling them to meet individual positive outcomes.

Quarriers have Investors in People Platinum accreditation and are one of only two social care organisations in Scotland to have this prestigious award. We also pay sleepover hours at £9.00 per hour.

We are looking for Autism Practitioners to assist in the provision of individualised person centred support to adults with Autism covering day shifts and also recruiting for waking nights. To contribute to and follow the person's own outcome based support plan, as part of a team, under the guidance and direction of the local management team. The successful candidate has a number of key objectives and accountabilities including:
  • Assist in the promotion of physical & emotional wellbeing and general health of people with Autism service users building on their feelings of security, responsibility and worth.
  • Contribute to the planning, reporting and reviewing of the individual's person centred, outcome based support plan.Completing daily recording & summaries as required.
  • Provide the appropriate levels of practical support required at home and within the community including undertaking household duties where required.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of professional and caring relationships between staff and People with Autism in pursuit personal development.
  • Support the formation of appropriate relationships with 'non paid' people to enable the ice people we support to sustain and build their own social circle and support network.

The knowledge, skills and experience necessary for the role:
  • Ability to achieve appropriate registration with SSSC, meeting qualification conditions within appropriate timescales.
  • Personal or work experience in a supportive role, preferably with adults with Autism.
  • Strong positive values particularly in relation to equality and diversity.
  • Good interpersonal skills, interact with people from all walks of life.
  • Effective communication skills: verbal, non-verbal, written & IT skills
  • Confident in problem solving and decision making. Ability to consult others appropriately.
  • Ability to work as part of a team either working alongside others or remotely as appropriate
  • Accountable and committed to high personal work standards.
  • Ability to put learning into practice and prepared to take on new challenges.

The successful candidate must have a full current drivers licence and access to own transport.

Successful candidates will be required to register with the SSSC. Where you are employed in a service where registration is compulsory, you must ensure that you register in the appropriate category within 6 months of starting in post. After registration, there is a requirement to be qualified within 3 years.

Please note that IT skills are required for all Quarriers vacancies.
