What it's about

The Senior Manager Operations role is a newly created one - adding capacity and capability and strengthening our existing Divisional Senior Management Team. Cambridge Assessment International Education delivers examinations to schools and learners worldwide. We operate in 160+ countries and every year hundreds of thousands of candidates take our examinations.

Our Cambridge based Operations Division manages the data, processes, and logistics that make all of this possible - setting up system and reference data, producing the materials and question papers and getting them to our schools, managing school entries and candidate information, recruiting and supporting our many examiners, ensuring that the millions of pieces of candidate work are marked, managing quality assurance activity, and getting the right results out on time to our schools and candidates worldwide.

This is complex and demanding work - our standards are high in terms of quality, consistency, and getting things right; and our stakeholders and the users of our qualifications (schools, candidates, parents, universities and employers across the globe) have high expectations in the quality of the outcomes we provide. As part of the management team the Senior Manager Operations will provide leadership and direction to the Operations division as a whole, and will specifically support and manage a number of Operations Managers and their teams; ensuring and enabling process delivery, quality of output, continuous improvement, and staff development.

What you'll be doing

You will take responsibility, as part of the Operations Division Senior Management Team, for the activity, delivery, performance, and development of a number of production teams - delivering complex business activities to consistently high levels of accuracy. Key accountabilities:

  • Leadership, motivation, management, empowerment and development of teams
  • Ensuring timely and quality output from operational teams
  • Contributing to divisional strategy as part of SMT
  • Ensuring a culture of continuous improvement
  • Leading operational process reviews and developments and system/technology change
  • Define, implement, and improve the control environment; and contribute to strategy to increase the resilience and robustness of operational processes
  • Effective communication with key customers
  • Effective collaboration with internal stakeholders and teams across Cambridge Assessment


What we're looking for

Our people are our greatest and most valuable asset - so primarily you will be an established and successful people manager, with demonstrable experience managing and developing teams in a complex and high stakes context delivering time critical processes. Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent, you should also have experience of identifying opportunities for process, system and organisational changes, and experience of implementing such changes. You will have excellent customer and stakeholder management, negotiation and communication skills and will be able to influence colleagues, suppliers and decision makers effectively. You will be energetic, enthusiastic, methodical, customer focussed, able to work to tight deadlines; and also have the ability to add business value through creative approaches and problem solving.
