Job Title: Support Worker/University Support Location: Sussex University (Brighton) Hourly rate : £ Reference: TM6832 Hours/shifts: 19 hours per week term time only some day and evening work available. Additional hours may be available during university holiday. Summary • I am an 18 year old guy looking for support when living independently at university. • I need support with accessing the community and helping me to be independent within my student accommodation. • I need support with domestic activities and general activities of daily living. • At university I am studying computer science and artificial intelligence. • I have cerebral palsy and I am a wheel chair user. • I am an easy going guy with a good sense of humor. • I am massive a football supporter and generally enjoy all sports. • There is no personal care involved in this role Other Requirements All applicants must be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts. Description Typical duties Domestic - • Laundry, hanging out to dry, ironing, putting away • Helping with laundry, washing and drying • Loading and unloading the washing machine • Loading and unloading tumble dryer/washing line • Changing bed linen • Bed making • General cleaning • Taking out rubbish • General housework, including cleaning, dusting and vacuuming. • Shopping Social: • Accompanying and assisting me with grocery and general shopping when required. • Accompany and supporting the me when accessing social and leisure activities, for example; going to the gym, going to the pub/clubbing and helping to experience and enjoy university life. • Occasional longer journeys; for example going to watch football games. • Driving and accompanying me to social events such as: Cinema, sports club and evening meetings • The above duties may involve driving the client in the PA's car, lifting the folding wheelchair in/out of car, pushing the manual wheelchair if electric wheel chair is broken. Person specification The successful applicant will be: • Respectful of my privacy and confidentiality • Reliable with good time-keeping • Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative • Hygienic, tidy minded and well organised • Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties • Patience and possess excellent interpersonal skills • Honest and cheerful • Creative • Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard • Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom • Able to work at all times to high standards of Health & Safety Previous experience preferred but this is not as essential as a kind and common sense approach to these roles.
