Financial Controller, Carlisle, Full Time, £50,000 - £60,000, plus Bonus, Pension
Due to continued growth and the successful acquisition of exciting new contracts, our client is now looking to recruit a Financial Controller. Our client operates in construction industry in Cumbria and the wider North West. This is a hands on Financial Controller position which is a new role for the business, following the last 3 years of rapid expansion. Reporting directly to the Owner/Managing Director the position offers someone a real opportunity to provide financial support and guidance which have a direct impact on the profitability and smooth running of the business.

We are looking for someone who will take responsibility for all financial aspects of the business (approx. £million turnover). It is a great opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to join a business and progress into a Directorship level as the role develops. You will manage a small productive team of 3 staff to lead and direct the finance function to produce timely and accurate accounts.

The business is a SME operating in the construction industry where you will work closely with a dedicated and highly committed Owner/Managing Director. It is therefore essential for the successful candidate to have worked in senior finance in the Construction and Property Sector (or a similar sector) for an SME. As this is a hands-on position so ideally you will be used to working in a varied all-round role.

You will be able to carry out the following duties following previous experience in a similar role;
  • Prepare month end and year end accounts in a timely manner
  • Development of business strategy with Managing Director regularly
  • Overseeing the company payroll and associated payroller
  • Review and support all major purchasing decisions for the business
  • Overall management of a small accounts team of 3 staff
  • Providing analytical business reports for the MD

Is this opportunity right for me?
You will need a strong management accounting background and have appropriate finance qualifications such as CIMA, ACA or ACCA.
This position offers you a real opportunity to gain involvement in strategic decisions by providing timely results and future forecasts along with management narrative to support senior team with excellent finance support. If you enjoy analysing business financial results and actions plans and coming up with new business models and ideas then this is the ideal role!

In order to meet the demands of the job you will have at least five years of accounting experience and have experience of managing a small finance team where you are responsible for the ledgers, payroll and creating the management accounting pack on a monthly basis. You will be proficient in MS Excel and be able to create reports and spreadsheets to an advanced level. You will have an analytical mind and seek to create solutions to issues facing a typical SME of this size.
