Applications are invited for the post of Peer Support Doctor for the BMA Peer Support Service. It offers the opportunity for doctors to provide confidential, emotional support to colleagues and give something back to the profession.

This voluntary post is most suitable for an empathic doctor who understands the range of issues affecting doctors and medical students, and who will be able to offer appropriate signposting and support by telephone. You will provide a reflective space, working with colleagues to facilitate insight into any problems. This is not a clinical service.

The post entails:

1. Acting as a Peer support doctor by responding to calls from doctors and medical students accessing the service. Usually one new case per month.

2. Attending training meetings held three times a year.
