The Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM), the organisation promoting and advancing standards of Emergency Medicine is inviting applications from individuals to sit on its Lay Committee (LC).

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the most dynamic and progressive Medical Royal Colleges, and to influence the delivery and care for patients of emergency medicine. We are particularly keen to receive applications from individuals with experience and knowledge of research in a scientific or academic setting.

The College is established to advance education and research in Emergency Medicine. The College is responsible for setting standards of training and administering examinations in Emergency Medicine for the award of Fellowship and Membership of the College. The College works to ensure high quality care by setting and monitoring standards of care, and providing expert guidance and advice on policy to relevant bodies on matters relating to Emergency Medicine.

The LC provides an independent patient and lay view on issues relevant to the College and patients. The members act as a critical friend to the College, providing the Lay perspective at meetings, contributing to responses to consultations on issues affecting patients, raising areas of patient concern and advising on the best ways to engage patients. The LC is also a valued for its contribution to the governance of the College

Candidates should be able to demonstrate previous experience and interest in in health-related areas. The appointment is for three years, renewable for a further three.
