What it's about

We are looking for an experienced Test Lead who will assist in taking Cambridge International testing to the next level, focusing on delivering a high volume of work to high quality standards.

Working alongside the Head of Business Testing to build and nurture a team of Test Coordinator's and Testers throughout the business, to consistently, efficiently and effectively test the business developments as the Cambridge Assessment IT landscape evolves. The successful candidate will work with Key Business Stakeholders and PMs and directly supporting the Head of Business Testing in developing and maintaining a good Quality Assurance process for Cambridge International that aligns and compliments the wider business strategy. This will involve maintaining awareness of external standards to ensure that practices are up-to-date and fit for purpose.

Building on the introduction of new and innovative ways of validating that IT changes have been successfully delivered and in line with the company wide changes and improvements to the technological landscape and exam products. The successful candidate will bring enthusiasm and commitment, demonstrating a creative mind-set by applying testing protocols and practices to pragmatic testing solutions including automation, compatibility and other non-functional test levels.

What you'll be doing

  • Capture and articulate the knowledge into a repository that provides a persistent source of information that can be evolved over time; be able to clearly articulate the significance of each application and the impact of failure to the business
  • Collaborate within Cambridge International, and externally where required, to capture and represent the technology landscape that supports all testing within your remit; be able to clearly articulate the risk profile of the landscape and the likelihood of failure
  • Identify the test environment requirements to conduct end to end business process testing and support the Head of Business Testing and Liaise with BTS where required
  • Define test data required to support all testing within your remit. Co-ordinate with The Business Testing Coordinators and other Test Leads where required to ensure that pre-requisite data is prepared or supplied from the systems which contribute to your testing activities
  • Provide leadership to the Business Test Team in the delivery of testing activities and collateral for specific projects, including evaluation, estimation, resourcing, test preparation, test execution and closure
  • To be an expert-level tester and to demonstrate an ability and willingness to participate in testing of the highest profile and most complex systems and ensuring that the software delivered to our customers is of the highest standard and defect-free.
  • To manage cross-portfolio testing, planning and co-ordinating resources effectively so as to ensure high quality assurance for specified products.
  • To take special responsibility for quality assuring specific programmes of work, to be defined from time to time. To influence project teams to ensure that quality assurance procedures are applied consistently across programmes of work and provide support as required both to customer facing deliverables and internal end-to-end business processes.

What we're looking for

  • Degree or equivalent industry experience
  • Software Testing and IT Governance accreditation e.g. ISEB/ISTQB Advanced level / ITIL / CoBit / PRINCE2
  • Being familiar in agile and waterfall delivery methodologies (highly desirable)

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to ensure vision is understood and implemented correctly
  • Advocate of Quality Assurance, Continuous Improvement and industry recognized best practice
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, multiple priorities and stretching goals and to lead a team of resources to do the same
  • Detailed knowledge of formal testing methodologies
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent knowledge of risk management, risk identification and risk based testing

  • Extensive experience of conducting software tests and why
  • Experience of test automation, it's appropriateness and limitations
  • Working knowledge of Test Management tools (e.g. qTest) and Application Lifecycle Management tools (e.g. JIRA)
  • Working knowledge of Collaboration tools including SharePoint, Skype Yammer
  • Good understanding of IT system processes such as workflow, database, integrations, logic, web, APIs

  • Keep abreast of new technologies, test tools and techniques and have a proactive approach to the adoption of new technologies via assigned projects
