Our Major Partnerships Unit will generate over £10 million income this year from companies, trusts, foundations and major donors. The Young Health Programme (YHP) is AstraZeneca's global community investment initiative and is one of Plan International UK's largest corporate-funded programmes. The YHP supports the health rights and wellbeing of young people aged 10-24 in marginalised communities worldwide through research, advocacy and on-the-ground programmes which are focused on the prevention of non-communicable diseases. We have a unique opportunity for a Programme Management Specialist to contribute to this vital work.

The role will include:
  • Managing all stages of the project cycle, including
    • baseline assessment and planning
    • development of a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation framework
    • rigorous programmatic and financial monitoring
    • timely and high quality financial and narrative donor reporting in accordance with contract requirements
    • mid and end line evaluation and financial audit
    • dissemination of lessons learnt
  • Develop proposals and budgets
  • Carry out proposal development and start-up workshops and monitoring and support visits as required
  • Monitor, track and query financial expenditure and progress against agreed project objectives and budgets
  • Provide technical guidance to the YHP country team on the development of all YHP materials, training materials and plans for various cohorts
  • Give advice and support to ensure the quality and integrity of the programme
  • Analyse the specific context of the country to inform the objectives and methodology of the national advocacy strategy
  • ensure that effective use is made of learning from project monitoring and evaluation to strengthen future project delivery
  • Provide input and YHP briefings for meetings and pitches to external stakeholders
  • Proactively collect fundraising collateral including photos, videos, and case-studies
  • Represent the organisation externally, including at donor meetings.

You will have proven experience of:
  • Delivering programmes with a significant component on NCD prevention, public health, adolescent health, SRHR, gender equality, mental health or youth-engagement
  • Developing high value (£500k +), complex public health proposals (including M&E frameworks) and budgets
  • Successfully working with international colleagues to deliver large multi-country projects, including experience of working remotely with colleagues to provide technical support
  • Project cycle management and reporting: analysing and providing detailed feedback on complex budget and expenditure reports and employing the use of tools such as log frames to ensure effective project cycle management
  • Delivering workshops and presentations in the field of public health, NCD prevention or SRHR to international colleagues, project partners and external stakeholders including corporate donors
  • Operating cross-departmentally and as part of a team to build and maintain excellent working relationships
  • Supporting project implementation by others remotely, using influencing and negotiating skills

You will have knowledge of:
  • How to deliver and manage programmes in the specific areas of NCD prevention among young people, public and/or adolescent health, SRHR, gender equality, mental health or youth engagement
  • YHP-related technical topics including the 5 NCD risk factors, SRHR, gender equality and mental health
  • International development issues and approaches including child rights programming, demonstrated by a relevant degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Fundraising and relationship building with Corporates, Individual Major Donors, Trusts/ Foundations and/or institutional donors and the wider not-for-profit sector
  • Project management and participatory approaches to monitoring and evaluation

You will be able to demonstrate awareness of child protection issues and an understanding of child rights and be able to support the development and delivery of M&E frameworks. You will also be able to design and manage large budgets and resolve financial issues; communicate confidently and diplomatically with colleagues at all levels, including high-level representatives of the corporate partnership and accurately present written information.

Fluency in spoken and written English is essential; the ability to speak or read Portuguese is desirable. You will also need to be able to travel overseas for periods of up to 10 days, five or six times a year.
