The Department for Exiting the EU (DExEU) is different; working in an exceptional context with a fast paced and dynamic environment right at the heart of Whitehall, you will have the opportunity to be part of a fantastic team supporting and influencing the delivery of one of the Government’s highest priorities. Working in DExEU requires innovation and creativity as we forge a new relationship between the UK and the EU.

As a Department we must be effective at protecting sensitive negotiation policy and analysis, which we deliver through robust processes and a strong security culture at all levels. Security should be a paramount consideration at the outset of any project, and will be critical in the on-going work of the Department as we move into our next phase.

The Directorate
The Head of Security, BC and KIM sits within the Operations and Security team, within the wider Corporate Centre Directorate. Sitting at the heart of the department, the Corporate Centre is responsible for providing quality corporate services to the organisation, and has a track record for doing so with high levels of pace, flexibility and in initiative.
The Directorate covers a full range of corporate services, from HR and Finance, to Estates, IT, Corporate Strategy and FOI (to name a few).

The Role
The Head of Security, BC and KIM is a leadership position within the Corporate Centre, and acts as the professional lead for security matters within the department. As a result, the role requires a unique blend of leadership across a multidisciplinary team, along with a strong grounding in protective security matters;

Leadership of Security BC and KIM teams
The post holder will be required to provide exceptional leadership and direction to a team of 12, split across three sub teams; Security, Business Continuity, and Knowledge and Information Management (KIM).

These are three interesting areas which are required to flex, change and evolve in response to challenges faced across the department. This requires fast paced strategic thinking and an ability to think outside the box. While each sub team is lead by a G7 (DExEU Band A), the Head of Security, BC and KIM is expected to create a cohesive culture; spotting opportunities to join up and exploit the interdependencies that exist within the team and elsewhere in the directorate.

Security Advisor
Working closely with the UK Intelligence Community, including the National Cyber Security Centre and the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure, you will understand the key threats to the department and wider government and use this information to assess the risks to departmental business. You will work with the Permanent Secretary and Operations Committee to determine how to manage security risks affecting all business areas. You will work closely with colleagues elsewhere in the Corporate Centre to ensure that the security needs of technology, estates and HR teams are met. A vital part of the role will be working collaboratively with the Government Security Group in the Cabinet Office and Security Advisers in other departments and the wider security community.

You will act as the liaison and intelligent customer, owning and requesting the delivery of critical security services from a central hub (Cluster Security Unit) and actively engage to ensure service standards are maintained.

If you have a passion for security and are driven by the challenge of leading through influence at both the strategic and operational levels of security then this role is for you. The additional responsibilities of Business Continuity and KIM provide this role with a unique challenge across government and the opportunity to lead across related areas of the department.

Your key responsibilities will include:

-Providing exceptional leadership to the Security, BC and KIM team; driving forward the agenda across the portfolio and ensuring that DExEU is operating effectively in each of these areas.

-Being a leadership role model within the Operations and Security Unit, the wider department, and across for the government security community;
