Staff Nurse Endoscopy - Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Location: Royal Hampshire County Hospital

Role Description:

To provide and maintain a high standard of patient care in the Endoscopy department for both day case patients and emergency in-patients. The post holder will be involved in the daily planning and organisation of the department under supervision of senior staff nurses and sisters, and will rotate through all areas in the unit to achieve and maintain competence in all aspects of Endoscopy.

The duties of the endoscopy nurse include preparing sedation, monitoring the patient during the procedure, and providing after-care and instructions. The nurse's responsibilities may involve emergency measures during or after the procedure.

Who we are:

The Endoscopy unit provides facilities for patients who require planned/urgent/emergency Endoscopic procedures and interventional radiological procedures. The aim of the nursing and ancillary staff in the Endoscopy unit is to provide a safe, caring and friendly service to the hospital and community.

The Endoscopy Service provides the following procedures:
  • Colonoscopy
  • Oesophago-gastro-duodenoscopy (OGD)
  • Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography (ERCP)
  • Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)
  • Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
  • Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG)
  • Bronchoscopy/Thoracoscopy
  • Endoscopic Bronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)

We run an on-call/out of hour's emergency GI endoscopy service, which the post holder will join, on completion of competency framework booklet.
