Main purpose of Job

The Lead Youth Work role holds responsibility for: running sessions; building relationships; staff management; delivery of youth services. They will work closely with the Quadrant Lead and other Lead Youth Workers to ensure efficient use of all resources.


Planning and Development

· Plan, resource and deliver sessions within borough strategy to ensure continued support is given by Eikon to young people; Putting young people first, ensuring we offer the right help at the right time

· Ensure that young people are involved in the planning, delivery and evaluation of youth work


· Lead a team of youth workers to deliver high quality youth work

· Work within Eikon's equal opportunities, health & safety and safeguarding policies at all times

· Identify emerging needs within borough and work with Quadrant Lead to plan services to meet those needs

Staff management

· Manage the team of frontline staff to plan, prepare and deliver programmes and sessions in accordance with best practices and all relevant Eikon policies and guidelines

· Supervise employees and volunteers

· Take part in regular supervision and team meetings

Quality and standards

· Ensure all staff understand and deliver within Eikon's safeguarding policies and practices

· Set standards and manage staff to ensure evaluations and case notes are all up to date and completed on time

· Keep accurate records and provide data and information as required

Finance and resources

· Manage devolved budget and other resources effectively, within delegated authority

· Liaise and coordinate with Quadrant Lead and other Lead Youth Workers to share resources efficiently, ensuring correct levels of staffing through planning and recruitment

Communications and relationships

· Develop and maintain relationships within the borough, particularly with existing and new delivery partners and commissioners

Other responsibilities

· Undertake any other duties reasonably required by the line manager

Person specification - Key skills


· Experience of delivering and leading high-quality youth work sessions is essential

· Experience of monitoring and evaluating youth work

· Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with young people

· Current child protection training or a willingness to work towards

· Experience of working with young people aged 11 to 18

· Ability to develop appropriate, supportive, positive relationships with young people

· They must evidence a commitment to empowering young people

· To be able to promote themselves and their work; being a positive role model within the community at all times, in line with the values of The Eikon Charity

· Be able to recognise current issues for young people and the barriers they may face that leave them vulnerable

· To be pro-active when participating in new projects

· Ability to deal professionally with the pressures young people and communities bring

· Willingness to adapt to the changing needs of the community and young people

· Have confidence to work with other agencies that support young people

· Committed to working to organisational Policies and Procedures in particular with regard to the safeguarding of young people and working within our equality and diversity policy

· Be able to attend meetings and training sessions when required

· Ability to work flexible hours including mornings, afternoons, evenings or weekends

· Ability to use ICT, for record keeping and communication, within the team

Qualifications (desirable)

· A Level 3 qualification in Youth Work
