Main purpose of Job

Working within Eikon's strategy, the Youth Participation Worker will be responsible for supporting young people to have a voice within their borough and communities, through developing opportunities for them to become involved and through supporting them to develop their confidence and capacity to take up these opportunities.

To support the Youth Council to deliver their goal of improving the local area for all young people and to bring their views and opinions to the attention of the borough.

Your work will particularly focus on working with children and young people who may need additional support, ensuring that those that face the greatest access barriers are able to express their views, and engage positively in the Youth Council process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning and Development

· Support and facilitate this Youth led session in the planning and delivery, providing guidance on effective interventions to ensure continued support is given by Eikon to young people; Putting young people first, ensuring we offer the right help at the right time

· Ensure that young people are involved in the planning, delivery and evaluation of youth work

· To build positive relationships with young people to encourage positive outcomes which effect a lasting change

· To lead specific activities and workshops, including their planning, resourcing, accreditation and quality assurance

· To increase the participation of children and young people from BME, young carers, young people with SEND, RONI and LGBT+ communities.

· To champion, promote and make real the active participation of young people in decision making about the services they use in the borough.

Delivery

· Deliver high quality youth work

· Work within Eikon's equal opportunities, health & safety and safeguarding policies at all times

· Identify emerging needs within sessions and work with the Lead Youth Worker to plan services to meet those needs

Staff management

· Take part in regular supervision and team meetings

Quality and standards

· Deliver within Eikon's safeguarding policies and practices

· Complete evaluations and case notes to a high standard and on time

Resources

· Liaise and coordinate with Lead Youth Workers and Practice Leads to share resources efficiently

Communications and relationships

· Develop and maintain relationships within the borough, with schools, local Councillors and other youth participation groups such as CAMHS Youth Advisors (CYA), Surrey Youth Cabinet, SEND Youth Advisors Surrey (SYAS)

Other responsibilities

· Undertake any other duties reasonably required by the line manager

Person specification - Key skills

Experience

· Working within a team and being supportive of the team aims and objectives

· Working with young people to produce individual development plans (desirable)

· Experience of monitoring and evaluating youth work (desirable)

Skills and Abilities

· Be able to recognise current issues for young people and the barriers they may face that leave them vulnerable

· To be pro-active when participating in new projects

· Ability to deal professionally with the pressures young people and communities bring

· Willingness to adapt to the changing needs of the community and young people

· Have confidence to work with other agencies that support young people

· Committed to working to organisational Policies and Procedures in particular with regard to the safeguarding of young people and working within our equality and diversity policy

· Be able to attend meetings and training sessions when required

· Ability to work flexible hours including mornings, afternoons, evenings or weekends

· Ability to use ICT, for record keeping and communication, within the team

Qualifications (desirable)

· A Level 2 qualification in Youth Work
