Director of Commercial Services

Reports to: CEO

Based at: High Wycombe with the possibility to regularly work from home by prior agreement with your line manager

Salary grade table: Commercial (CO1) c. £50k

Hours: 35 hours per week. Hours to be agreed with your line manager. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required

Holiday: 36 days holiday a year including bank holidays

Line management: 6.8 FTEs is envisaged

The Role:

Working as a key member of the senior management team to lead the charity in the strategic development and operational delivery of commercial services. Expanding income to enable the charity to grow reach and impact. You will need to optimise the revenue from existing income streams as well as develop new and innovative ways to bring in revenue to the charity. This will primarily come from the food industry and there may be opportunities to develop income streams from other sources such as the health sector

Key Responsibilities:

•Work as part of the senior management team to develop plans and budgets to deliver the charity's strategic aims and provide leadership to staff

•Leading the Commercial team to develop and implement a commercial income strategy including new products and services, full exploitation of existing products, combined with customer acquisition and retention

•Lead the development of Account Management approach to commercial clients and own the business relationships with key commercial partners

•Identify and develop new business opportunities for the charity creating robust business cases and resource plan to support proposals

•Work with the Commercial team and across the organisation to lead the development and management of gluten free licensing, accreditation and training services, and other schemes/services aimed at the food sector

•Personally deliver pitches and close deals in pursuit of income generation

•Lead and manage your team to deliver against plan and budget, and maximise their potential

•Manage staff and the strategy against the charity's policies and values

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

•A business development background and/or with direct experience of income generating activity derived from the sale of products and services in the private or not for profit sectors

•Strategic thinker and implementer with the ability to analyse data and draw meaningful conclusions. Must have the skills and experience to translate plans to practical reality

•Evidence of building and maintaining long-term strategic partnerships

•A proven track record in achieving income targets through commercial products and services

•Experience of working with caterers, retailers or food manufacturers would be an advantage

•Able to give compelling presentations, pitches and close deals

•An understanding of marketing or experience of working with marketing specialists and of operating various and different sales approaches

•Ability to build and develop effective long term relationships with partners, stakeholders and staff

•Digitally and data savvy with experience of CRM tools and methods

•Excellent planning, project management and budgeting skills. Must be a "starter" and a "finisher"

•Educated to degree level or equivalent with high levels of numeracy and literacy
