Location: Covent Garden, London.

Salary: £35.78 per hour inclusive of pro rata holiday entitlement and preparation time.

Hours: Monday 10-1pm, start date 13/01/2020.

We are renowned for providing high quality courses for a range of adults and have enjoyed a period of significant growth within this area which we are looking to continue by recruiting for a number of exciting new Digital Skills courses.

What's the Role:

We are looking for an English Literacy tutor to join the Centre for Universal Skills at City Lit and teach the course below. The course is a year long with termly enrolments. Universal Skills consists of ESOL, English, Maths and Digital Skills. Our Centre's purpose is to provide adults with the skills they need to participate, progress and express themselves in a modern democratic society. Within English, this involves enabling learners to develop the articulacy and literacy skills needed to participate fully in society, including taking part in complex discourse both written and spoken, as well as progressing in work and other aspects of civil society. The course below is a non-accredited course designed to give the tutor full scope to meet the needs of the learners rather than prepare for an exam.



Successful applicants will also join our pool of tutors and be considered for other posts as appropriate.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a tutor who can promote the Centre's overall purpose with a neuro-diverse group of learners and can develop a non-accredited course which goes beyond functional skills. The tutor should be aware of neuro-diversity and be able to create a class which addresses a range of learning needs including those of learners with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, auditory processing, working memory deficit and specific language impairment. We are keen to promote creative task-based learning where appropriate within a broad curriculum that challenges and engages students.

Selection Criteria:
  • A proven track record in successfully teaching level 1 English or above to adults including learners with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, auditory processing, working memory deficit and specific language impairment.
  • An ability to create a holistic learning experience for English literacy students with a scheme of learning that is adapted to learner needs and is suitably challenging.
  • Can create a vibrant and dynamic learning environment to enable students to achieve both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Can promote progress through task-based projects which promote collaborative learning.
  • Can provide effective assessment for learning of both written and spoken English over a whole course.
  • Can respond to a diverse range of learning needs within a single class.
