At Buckinghamshire Council we have opportunities across the County for high-calibre social workers in our Help & Protection and Assessment teams.

We will be hosting several Try Before You Apply sessions over the next few weeks offering a fantastic opportunity for candidates to come in and get to know our teams, services and what life is like at Buckinghamshire Council.

Our first session will take place remotely, on 29th September from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

The session will consist of talks from the various services where we have opportunities, some of our social workers talking about a day in the life being a social worker within our services and a talk about the benefits & rewards of working for Buckinghamshire County Council.

About us
In April 2020 Buckinghamshire Council became the UK’s newest council and the residents of Buckinghamshire will be served by a single, unitary council.

Buckinghamshire is an ambitious, rapidly growing county, and our economy is one of the strongest in the country. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and ranks as one of the top rural areas to live in the UK and yet it is incredibly well connectedâ€" only an hour from London on the train. The county has a rich history and heritage and is the birthplace of the international Paralympic movement.

We are looking for motivated, ambitious and inspiring people to join us on our journey. Not only will you be an integral part of the unique and exciting transition through the unitary process, you will also be entitled to a range of different benefits to make sure you are happy both at work and at home.

About the role
The Help and Protection Services delivers statutory social work services to children and young people who live at home in Buckinghamshire on either child protection or child in need plans. The teams have fantastic links with Early Help services which enable families to continue to receive appropriate support after the statutory threshold is no longer met. Social work delivery is based upon having effective plans based on good assessments of each individual child’s needs that deliver either positive change or increased protection for our children and young people.

In the Assessment Team, once a child is referred, the child will be allocated a qualified Social worker, who will undertake a social work assessment; this will include direct work with the child and family to inform the on-going plan.

The Assessment Team service ensures referrals are responded to in a child focussed and timely way. This will mean working in line with the Children Act 1989, and any other legislation and standards appropriate to the particular area of service delivery.

On completion of the Assessment a decision is made as to the most appropriate support for the child and family. This could be through a variety of approaches including multi agency support; a referral to other agencies or on-going intervention from social care.

You will undertake Child and Family assessments and investigate any concerns of neglect through section 47 investigations. As part of this role you will also be managing an assigned caseload and preparing and maintaining case records.

Our Help and Protection and Assessment teams are both based in the following locations:
  • Aylesbury
  • High Wycombe
  • Amersham.

If you are interested in a particular location, please indicate this on your application.
