Are you the Ward Housekeeper we're looking for?

We are looking for an experienced housekeeper to provide support to the Trust.

East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust provide services to the local community to around 500,000 people, with the regional cancer centre supporting around 2 million people. They provide care to the community with an annual budget of around £350 million and more than 5,000 staff.

We have long term placement opportunities available for a temporary housekeeper available at Lister Hospital, Stevenage.

Responsibilities will cover several areas such as;
  • To assist in monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards on the ward
  • To carry out spot cleaning and ensure spillage's are dealt with swiftly and efficiently
  • To ensure general and specialist equipment, e.g. drip stands, incubators and commodes, are cleaned as per policy
  • To ensure the ward is safe and tidy at all times, e.g. remove clutter, tidy notice boards, signage etc
  • To maintain upkeep of patients' bed areas To identify any problems with cleanliness and report to the housekeeper/ward sister
  • To ensure isolation nursing areas are cleaned appropriately

  • To assist with patients food orders, where necessary taking into account special needs and meal requirements
  • To provide patients with any assistance they require to eat and drink and to monitor food intake in conjunction with the nursing team.
  • To prepare and serve hot/cold snacks (e.g. toast) as requested.
  • To serve meals in conjunction with the nursing team, ensuring patients' intake is known and that their dietary needs are met.
  • To prepare and serve hot/cold beverages including appropriate trolley / equipment
  • To ensure all food and beverages are served at the correct temperature according to food hygiene regulation
  • To prepare areas where food and beverages are served / consumed to ensure a pleasant environment for patients
  • To wash all equipment / utensils used in preparation, serving and consuming food and beverage
  • To take responsibility for the ward kitchen whilst on duty co-ordinated by the ward housekeeper, ensuring it is clean at all times, e.g. discarding out-of-date food
  • To ensure refrigerated food is labelled and stored correctly as per policy, recording refrigerator temperatures if requested.
  • To assist the housekeeper, in conjunction with the ward nurse, to ensure that discharged and newly admitted patients' meal requirements are actioned.
  • To assist with extra meal requirements that may arise
  • To assist with the monitoring of service delivery, especially related to cleaning, food, linen and the environment whilst on duty
  • To record and report maintenance issues ensuring that the issue is recorded in the estates log book on the ward.
  • To provide household maintenance in line with local policy: replace light bulbs and clock batteries following training.
  • To transfer and dispose of clinical, domestic and confidential waste as per the policy, e.g. taking waste to the disposal area
  • To clean and prepare beds following patient discharge
  • To ensure that patients' space is respected including attending to patients' fruit, flowers, etc. To respect the privacy and dignity of patients whilst carrying out housekeeping duties
  • To maintain the safety of patients property and belongings in line with policy.
  • To minimise the potential for adverse behaviour and security breaches

This is an ongoing position, and the working hours will be on a rota basis.
