Pay Rate: £43.51 to £50.30 paye including holiday or £49.00 to £57.24 umbrella depending on skill and experience

Managerially Accountable to: Chief Nurse

Associate Chief Nurse Role Summary
  • Provide professional direction of Nursing & Clinical services within the Division and across the Trust ensuring optimum standards of patient care via the effective and efficient management of human, financial and physical resources.
  • Be accountable for the professional direction of Nursing and Clinical services within the Division, ensuring optimum standards of patient care via the effective and efficient management of human, financial and physical resources.
  • Support the Chief Nurse in developing and implementing the Trust Nursing Strategy in accordance with patient needs, national and local priorities and professional codes of conduct. Leading nursing practice and will be expected to develop innovative practice in relation to the provision of services to patients and families.
  • They will assume professional nursing leadership, budgetary and line management responsibility to the Matrons and their teams and have responsibility for Divisional Clinical Governance with the Clinical Director. Under the direction of the Chief Nurse, build upon existing and/or create new networks within the divisions’ specialist fields locally, regionally and nationally.
  • Lead on the implementation of the Trust’s safeguarding vision and strategy that enables the fulfilment of statutory duties in relation to safeguarding children and adults within the divisions.

Key Areas
  • In conjunction with the Associate Director & Divisional Clinical Chair, lead the development and implementation and delivery of the clinical service strategy across the Division.
  • Professionally and managerially responsible for all nursing within the Division
  • Line Management of: Deputy Associate Chief Nurse, Divisional Head of AHP and Directorate Matron Team, Lead ANPs/ACPs.
  • Support the Clinical Directors and as part of the Divisional management team develop, implement and monitor quality and business plans for the directorates. To facilitate staff and team development and ensure effective communication systems operate within the Directorates.
  • Oversee the Clinical Staff annual plan that forms the Divisional Clinical Service Strategy.
  • Ensure the nursing agenda is delivered by providing leadership and working with the Clinical Directors to line manage Matrons as necessary.
  • To be jointly responsible with the Medical Governance Lead for the Quality Governance. Risk Register and accreditation agenda for the Division.
  • Provide leadership and direction to all clinical teams.
  • Ensure the Chief Nurse is briefed on all professional issues within the Division.
  • Participate in the Trust’s General Management on call rota.
  • Act in accordance with the Nursing & Midwifery Council code of conduct.
  • Monitor complaints and incidents about clinical care and incidents related within the Division, ensuring appropriate responses and implementation of action plans effectively resolve issues identified.
  • Have ultimate accountability for Nursing services, relevant to the post holders Division

Education and Qualifications
  • Registered Nursing / Midwifery Qualification and eligible to practice.
  • Management and/or post graduate qualification or significant relevant experience.
  • Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge acquired through Education to master’s degree or equivalent proven experience working at senior nursing

Essential Experience
  • Knowledge and application of advanced clinical, operational and managerial practice obtained by extensive in-depth experience in a complex acute healthcare setting plus relevant specialist study.
  • Experience of managing a multifaceted service as a senior nurse/AHP including financial staff management and change management.
  • An understanding of the complexities of service delivery in a large organisation and able to work across boundaries.
  • Experience of managing budgets.
  • Fully conversant with the national nursing agenda and the impact of national initiatives on the profession.
