We are seeking to appoint an experienced Teaching Assistant to support pupils with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP.)

This is an exciting opportunity to help make a difference in the classroom. You will have a passion to work with children who have a range of additional needs. At Swingate we strive to offer a child centred approach and work closely with parents and outside agencies.

Teaching Assistants at Swingate need to have a positive and flexible attitude, with a good understanding and strong commitment to inclusive principles. You will be able to use your own initiative and provide exciting multisensory learning activities for the children in your care. You will be supported by the Class teacher and SENCo to provide care and education to the children, enabling them to reach their full potential, develop their skills for life and become independent learners.

Effective communication is paramount as you will need to communicate with the class teacher and parents when providing feedback and offering strategies to support, as well as maintaining a good standard of record keeping and attending meetings with outside agencies.

The main focus of the role is to provide 1:1 support to pupils with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) or children in receipt of high needs funding, but your responsibilities may include:-
  • Supporting children in achieving the lesson objective in English, Maths and across all areas of the curriculum
  • Leading 1:1 and group intervention programmes
  • Feeding back to the class teacher, maintaining records of progress and behaviour
  • Working with children to support any SEMH, personal care or medical needs
  • Liaising with parents and external professionals

At Swingate we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and references must be satisfactory. You will be requested to bring photographic identification to interview.

Closing Date: 25/09/2020 at 09:00

Interviews: Week Commencing 5th October 2020
