Patient Safety and Governance Midwife

Sector: Healthcare

Location: Ashford and Chertsey

Travelling: Main base Ashford and Chertsey, with requirement to work across both Hospital sites to fulfil role, and working at any other Trust site as required

Working from home Option : To be discussed during the interview stage

Job Type: Temporary

Duration of temporary role: 3 to 6 months and likely to be longer

Band: 7

Working days and hours: 30 hours per week

Pay rate: £23.00 to £26.50 paye inclusive or £26.50 to £30.00 umbrella per hour depending on skill and experience

Overview

To work with the Divisional Quality Governance Manager in the delivery of the corporate agenda for Clinical Governance within the Women’s Health & Paediatric Division (Maternity & Gynaecology) via the Quality Safety and Risk Management Strategy. To provide leadership and advice on matters relating to Patient Safety and Governance in the Women’s Health & Paediatric Division (Maternity & Gynaecology)

Duties
  • Ensure there are effective processes in place to monitor patient safety, clinical effectiveness and patient experience through
  • A robust process for managing all Maternity and Gynaecology clinical incidents reported via the Datix system
  • Evidence of responsive actions following clinical incidents and complaints
  • A robust programme of learning following clinical incidents
  • Effective processes for the monitoring of actions following clinical incidents
  • Effective processes for maintaining up to date and evidence based clinical guidelines across the division
  • Demonstrates a professional approach to work.
  • The post holder must have specific knowledge / expertise within the practice area underpinned by theory and practical experience. Must be able to provide expert advice in midwifery matters for clinical risk management issues and have the ability to reach an advanced training level for this purpose.
  • Provides detailed advice specific to risk management across speciality areas of maternity and gynaecology and can apply the same principles to other specialties across the division (paediatrics and neonatal) as required, seeking expert opinion from the relevant professional.
  • Provides regular updating for all staff and ensures new staff are trained in local risk management procedures within one month of commencing employment.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience
  • Demonstrable midwifery practice within the last 5 years
  • Current midwifery registration
  • Demonstrable experience of Perinatal Mortality Review involvement and/or use of PMRT tool
  • Maintain portfolio and NMC revalidation requirements
  • Knowledge of maternity issues in the wider context of the NHS
  • Knowledge of Trust and Divisional Audit requirements.
  • Knowledge of Audit methodology and statistical techniques.

Experience at band 7 level, experience in governance, audits, quality improvements, form filling, reporting writing and dealing with investigations with set timelines/deadlines.
