Public sector organisation based Herts.


1 Professional and expert accounting and technical service for the revenue, holding and control accounts relating to the organisation mainly in the form of monthly management accounting information and unit costing.

2 To support the Finance Business Partner in the division to liaise with business unit managers relating to services within their responsibility and provide financial information and support to cost centre managers (including salary information).

3 To be pro-active in identifying opportunities for the business units within the organisation and in particular the repair and maintenance service ,identifying unit costs and monitoring the bottom line for commercial areas of the business, suggesting appropriate course of action to mitigate any losses. The Management Accountant will be responsible for highlighting to officers any long-term financial implications of new/changes of activity.

4 To prepare journals and files o ensure compliance with Financial Regulations. Responsible for monitoring budgets and providing budget reports monthly and/or as requested by the Business Unit. The monitoring requires identifying variances from budgets and using expert knowledge of the business area to provide accurate forecasts of expenditure and income in conjunction with the officers concerned.

5 The Assistant Finance Business Partner is required to have a good working knowledge of the technical areas within the businesses they support, in order to validate, produce estimates and identify early any variance to the council's budgets.

They must be able to offer solutions/options to budget managers/ Finance Business Partner and the Finance Manager - Business Partners regarding financial issues and be pro-active in giving financial advice. This requires the post holder to be up to date with local government financial regulations/legislation as well as having a good understanding of the business.


Qualified accountant, based Herts with a background in:

1. Technical and management accounting

2. Budget monitoring and variance analysis

3. Knowledge of local government finance
