HEAD OF RESEARCH & IMPACT

The Head of Research and Impact is a new senior role leading our research and evaluation, which gives us a unique insight into our world-leading creative industries and the impact we achieve on behalf of the sector. We are looking for someone with experience of leading, conducting and commissioning research that influences changes in policy and practice; communicating research effectively; overseeing the evaluation of practical programmes; and with a good understanding of a range of methodologies. Someone who is inspiring with an analytical mind, and an ability to see the stories behind the data. You will have the opportunity to work directly with the most influential creative individuals and organisations from across the UK's creative industries, from advertising and architecture through to fashion, film, publishing and video games.

CORE FUNCTIONS
  • Lead the development, governance and execution of the research and impact function
  • Define, commission and manage research and evaluation with external partners
  • Liaise and meet with officials in government, devolved bodies and across industry on research and data
  • Develop headline research publications, exploring pioneering ways to highlight key findings
  • Present research and data at relevant roundtables, events and Board meetings
  • Ensure an effective and robust programme evaluation process
  • Maximise research income from external funding sources

LOCATION*: Workspaces available in Bristol, Manchester or Central London. Flexible to other UK locations for the right candidate. Appointee may be expected to work remotely from home for their first few months due to Covid-19 workspace changes.

CONTRACT: Full time minimum 1-year fixed term renewable

SALARY: up to £45,000 dependent on experience

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • Undertake effective stakeholder engagement, developing original and robust research and data which feeds into policy and campaigning work and accurately represents the diversity of our sector.
  • Gather and analyse data for performance and stakeholder reporting, covering the economic impact of the UK creative industries.
  • Lead on the design, data gathering and analysis of member and sector surveys, informing data shared directly with government and the publication of reports.
  • Work closely with research partners ensuring data and analysis represents real insights into pressing issues facing the creative industries.
  • Support responses to sector consultations providing data and material relevant to programmes and regional partnership development work.
  • Understand reporting requirements for partner contracts, create clear frameworks for impact reporting, and support development of funding bids.
  • Champion our ‘Theory of Change’ work, designing and leading on how we effectively measure our performance against key strategic objectives.
  • Work closely with the Senior Press & PR Manager to ensure effective response to press and public questions about research and data.
  • Maintain regular contact with members, programme participants and partners where appropriate, including key research work.
  • Work with the Educations and Skills team to support elements of our offer and support across creative careers, including advising on the research priorities of members and stakeholders.
  • Review and make recommendations for changes to CRM systems used to deliver and monitor research work.
  • Responsible for ensuring budgetary management and reporting for all research and impact activities.
  • Ensure the development of effective local and national partnerships.
  • Manage a register of all research activity across the organisation.
  • Ensure the effective dissemination of research findings to relevant partners.
  • Produce an annual report detailing all research activity, income and output.
  • To be an ambassador for the company; maintaining a professional approach always, sustaining a high level of visibility and networking by attending relevant industry events and public speaking opportunities

PERSON SPECIFICATION
  • Strong understanding of the creative industries, its impact, challenges and why the political process matters.
  • Demonstrably experienced in the creative sector and public policy environment.
  • Economic analysis: Background in analysis, developing research methodologies and producing robust empirical data that stands up to scrutiny.
  • Strategic Thinking: ability to grasp complex concepts and challenges, ask strategic questions, and make thoughtful recommendations on how to proceed
  • Evaluation: programmes, reviewing, implementing evidence-based impact measurement tools and producing management reports and story telling data
  • Influencer: strong communicator, with the ability to discuss project and data outputs with internal and external stakeholders
  • Data, Systems and surveys: Highly numerate with strong analytical skills, experience of using CRM tools, designing surveys and translating data
  • GDPR: Knowledge of legislation and current good practice relating to information management
