Five Education are looking for LSAs to support students at special schools in Bristol and South Gloucestershire. You will be supporting students with a range of needs including Autism, SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs), SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties) and Complex Needs.

You will be supported by a network of staff but will be expected to understand the needs of the students and able to use appropriate methods to keep the students safe and calm while they complete their work. The work can be challenging at times but is equally rewarding as you support the student's development.

Responsibilities include:
  • Working 1:1 and in small groups
  • Supporting the student’s emotional development
  • Working with students who have a range of needs possibly splitting your time between a couple of students in the day
  • Using behaviour management techniques (e.g. those learned in Team Teach or MAPA courses) to keep children calm and maintain a safe working environment
  • Working with teachers to support students with their work, assisting in differentiation
  • Ensuring students routines are maintained and any changes are communicated to them well in advance
  • Helping students to stay focussed and engaged in classes, even if they're not working at expected levels for their age

Essential Criteria:
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children or young people with SEN in a school or other environment such as sports coaching.
  • A calm personality
  • Flexible and willing to try new methods and means of supporting students
  • A proactive approach to supporting the children and assisting the teacher
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Able to judge when a situation needs redirecting or if the students are able to use self-regulating techniques.
  • Have a right to work in the UK (A Valid Visa)
  • Two recent child based references
  • Able to work 8.30-3.30 3-5 days per week term time only
