Five Education is looking for a learning support assistant to work with children who have Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) in Stroud. We would like a compassionate and experienced TA to work with pupils who have had/ are coping with stressful events in childhood.

Responsibilities and duties:
  • Providing a consistent and supportive presence within the school
  • Supporting students with their work, and helping them to stay focussed
  • Encouraging students to try new things and to complete age-appropriate tasks for themselves
  • Helping with differentiation
  • Working on social skills and experiences such as navigating friendship groups
  • Helping to build self-esteem
  • Using behaviour management techniques to maintain a calm classroom environment
  • Supporting children in their academic and personal development

Essential Criteria:
  • A flexible and resourceful approach
  • A calm personality
  • Persistent but not pushy, some children with ACEs can be dismissive of support, especially from a new person
  • A proactive approach to supporting the children and assisting the teacher especially when providing the student with ACEs with space to work on their own
  • Able to cope with challenging behaviour
  • Experience working with children who have SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs) would be ideal but is not essential
  • Have a right to work in the UK (A Valid Visa)
  • Two recent child based references and relevant DBS/ Police checks
  • Able to work 8.30-3.30 3-5 days per week term time only

Successful applicants will be required to undergo checks including a barred list check, reference checks and will need to have a DBS; there will also be a face to face interview.
