As a Contract Officer, you will deliver an excellent customer focused service to secure the best value support services through managing low risk and low value contracts.

You will be working collaboratively with colleagues, service providers, children, young people and their families; the ability to build effective working relationships is essential.

Our Contract Officers analyse data, tender and contract documents, presenting this information clearly and concisely. Alongside this work, you will be initiating, establishing, monitoring and reviewing contracts with service providers.

This will be a challenging, dynamic and rewarding role and we are looking for individuals who have the appropriate aptitude and skills to make a difference for some of the most vulnerable residents in our society. We are particularly keen to hear from professionals who have excellent communication skills and proven experience of working in contracts and commissioning within an education and or social care setting or can evidence that they have transferable skills.

You will join our exciting, incredibly supportive fast paced team who are always improving outcomes for children and young people.

Experience and Skills

We are looking for someone who has experience, knowledge and skills in commissioning, procurement and or contract management. Preferably your experience will involve working within children's education and social care services (however other relevant experience may also be considered).

Key Skills:
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills in order to understand complex tender documents, contracts and to check statistical financial information and other documents.
  • Ability to present information clearly, concisely, accurately and in ways that promote understanding, either verbally or in written/electronic form, i.e. when producing a tender.
  • Good analytical skills in order to interpret complex tender/financial information, with the ability to organise, plan and meet set targets e.g. for timely distribution of tenders.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills in order to interact effectively with a range of clients and create and maintain effective working relationships. Including the ability to advise and guide clients to make sound decisions.
  • Good negotiation skills in order to work with providers to achieve improvements in contract terms.
  • Sound and accurate IT skills for the integral use of word processing, analysing data, creating and developing workflows or electronic presentations.

  • Qualifications and/or experience:
    • BTEC/HNC/NVQ 3 level or equivalent experience demonstrating an appropriate level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills.
    • Experience of operating in the contract management arena, ensuring best value and maintaining optimum service levels.
    • Experience of working within Children's Social Care. Desirable
    • Experience and enthusiasm for work with and for people or customers to achieve quality services.
    • Experience of working within office systems/practices that provide support to children and young people.
