Consultant in Public Health (fixed term - 6 months)

Salary negotiable Full time Monday - Thursday 8.45am - 5.15pm Friday 8.45am - 4.45pm

Corporate duties and accountabilities:

• The post holder will comply with and promote the Council’s Health, Wellbeing and Safety at Work policies and ensure these are implemented effectively within his/her areas of responsibility.

• A priority for the Council is the protection of vulnerable people, ensuring they can live as independently as possible. The post-holder will promote and engage with Council’s responsibility to safeguard the welfare of children, young people, and adults, and protect their right to be safe from harm.

• Through personal commitment and clear action, the post-holder will promote the Council’s employment policies, with reference to diversity, equality of access and treatment in employment, service delivery and community involvement. To support/develop a working culture within these services that reflects the corporate vision.

• Ensure that the services provided aligned to the Council strategy, vision, aims, objectives, priorities, and continuous improvement programme and play their part in achieving these. This includes compliance with Standing Orders, Financial Regulations, Code of Conduct and the Councils Policies and Procedures.

• In general, the post holder will be expected to be able to cope with multiple and changing demands, and to meet tight deadlines. A high level of intellectual rigour, negotiation and motivation skills and flexibility are required to deal with complex public health issues, to advise and make recommendations regarding services and patient care. A high level of tact and diplomacy is required and an ability to understand other cultures to enable effective working across organisational boundaries and influencing without control

• Will provide expert public health advice and leadership to support and inform an evidence-based approach within ethical frameworks for commissioning and developing high quality equitable services, across primary, secondary and social care, and across sectors including local authorities, voluntary organisations, etc. This will include the provision of Public Health leadership and input (the PH offer) to Walsall Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) in line with an agreed Memorandum of Understanding.
