Are you a Primary specialist Teacher OR Teaching Assistant, with some knowledge or experience of Autism?

We have an exciting new opportunity for which we are looking for TWO tutors, to work 1:1 with 2 twin boys who are both on the Autistic spectrum. They are 8 years old and are in the Bassetlaw area, living with biological parents.

They are finishing a school roll at an SEN School so will require 1:1 tuition until a new school place is found, which could now be September 2021. The hours will initially be for 3 hours per day, with a view to increasing this to 5 hours per day as soon as possible, as long as they are both engaging.

The sessions will take place in the home environment while libraries are still closed.

One of the students has more complex needs and requires Makaton to support with communication whilst the other is more independent and likes to try things by himself, without support.

The ideal candidate:
  • Experienced working with Autism in any capacity
  • Confident to support students on a 1:1 basis
  • Experienced at offering play based, sensory work to ASC pupils
  • Able to work professionally with the other tutor and the parents in the home
  • Flexible and committed to the students and their education - you will need an open mind as it is not yet clear when a new school place will be found, so we require tutors to be committed and dedicated to the student for as long as is needed
  • Able to produce weekly feedback reports to send to the Local Authority and daily attendance registers
  • Knowledge of the EYFS/KS1 curriculum and experience working with primary aged pupils
  • Knowledgeable with non-verbal students who may require Makaton to aid communication

  • Working 1:1 with one of the twins, in the home environment (the other tutor will also work in the home with the other student)
  • Behaviour management - keeping the student calm and safe at all times
  • Offering play based, sensory activities as these students are working at below ARE
  • Offering a nurturing and supportive work environment
  • Planning and delivering all resources independently (however we are not expecting a huge amount of academic curriculum as the students will benefit more from nurturing and play based work(

  • Gain invaluable experience on your CV of working 1:1 with SEN students!
  • Working closely with another tutor and having a dedicated Teaching Personnel consultant on hand for support at all times
  • Competitive rates of pay
  • Ongoing, long term role (likely to be for the rest of this academic year at least)
  • Consistent and regular work with flexible working hours tailored around you
  • Exciting opportunity to really make a difference to the lives of vulnerable young people

We are looking for 2 tutors to start ASAP with these students, so for more information please get in touch immediately with us on , or email

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see faqs for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
