Position: Teaching Assistant

Pay: £10 per hour per day including National Insurance, Pension and Holiday Pay.

Start Date: January 4th 2020

End Date: 20th July 2020 (with the possibility of extending depending on how the successful candidate progresses)

Interview/Observation Trial: Trials will be held after being fully vetted.

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a client school in Blaenau Gwent who are looking for a fluent welsh speaking Teaching Assistant to work in a Nursery Class in a fluent welsh medium Primary School until the summer term.

About the school

The school serves a wide area and pupils come from all corners of the county. There are 256 pupils between 3 and 11 years old on roll, including 47 nursery age pupils. Welsh is the main medium of the school’s life and work. There are 10 mixed-age classes, including two part-time nursery classes, at the school.

Around 7% of pupils are eligible for free schools meals. This is significantly lower than the national average of 18%. The school has identified that around 11% of pupils have special educational needs. This is lower than the national figure of 21%. Many pupils come from English-speaking homes. Around 21% come from Welsh-speaking homes.

Essential for this role:

- The ability to communciate effectively and confidently through the medium of welsh.

- A CHILD ONLY Enhanced DBS (We can help you obtain this if you haven’t already got one).

- You will need to be registered with the Education Workforce Council as a Support Learning Worker. Education Workforce Council (EWC) is the independent regulator in Wales for Teachers, Further Education Teachers and learning support staff. Registration with the EWC is a legal requirement for anyone who works in a Welsh School.

Desirable for this role:

- Previous experience working in the education or care sector. Although desirable, it is not essential.
