Your new company
We are currently supporting the West Midlands Strategic Migration Partnership (WMSMP) who are currently being hosted by Birmingham City Council. You will be part of a regional project covering all of the wider West Midlands & funded through the Home Office to focus specifically on migration,. Due to a member of staff going on maternity, we are seeking a temporary Assistant Policy Officer to join the team, as soon as possible. This position is temporary, working 35 hours a week on an ongoing basis.

Your new role
This is an excellent opportunity. your day to day duties will include, but not limited to:
  • Set up of local and regional multiagency meetings through Teams
  • Accurate minutes, notes and actions taking
  • Follow up of any actions/any other points raised at meeting
  • Weekly updating of WMSMP website using Wordpress
  • Management of twitter account and posting relevant content in a timely fashion
  • Producing and circulating the monthly ebulletin to cover updates on migration
  • Maintaining contact lists for ebulletin distribution
  • Excel spreadsheets - producing these (so basic knowledge of formulas is required), production of graphs and reports from spreadsheets
  • Monitoring media in connection with migration, sharing this with the team and other key stakeholders
  • Follow up of any operational issues in connection with migration queries
  • Attendance at meetings with Lead Officer - this could include other attendees being Cllrs, Senior Home Office Officials, Accommodation providers voluntary sector, Council staff etc.
  • Improvement of processes so that the asylum system can be improved in the region.
  • Analysis of policy reports so that briefings can be produced for the region

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful as Assistant Policy Officer, you will be a thoroughly organised and process driven individual, able to communicate professionally with a variety of individuals from different sectors and seniority levels. Candidates with previous experience within migration or charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups would be advantageous, as would any exposure to policy implementation. You will be able to operate in a politically sensitive environment, and represent the organisation appropriately.

What you'll get in return
This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate to come in and make an impact across the West Midlands. Currently working from home, the role can be based across the UK, though candidates with knowledge of the local area would be beneficial. This position will earn £14.58 an hour paid weekly. You will also accrue holiday pay as PAYE. Laptop will be provided and so you will need to be able to collect equipment from central Birmingham.
