About you

We know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they think they can’t tick every box. But we realise the 'perfect candidate’ doesn’t exist. If you're excited about working for us and can do most of what we are looking for, go ahead and apply. You could be exactly what we need!

We’re ideally looking for someone who is:
  • Highly motivated to deliver excellence service
  • A strong team player
  • Able to have clear, concise communication at all levels
  • Able to manage own time and workload according to requirements
  • Able to handle issues in a courteous, efficient and effective manner, maintaining a professional approach at all times
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office products and their effective use in practice

About the role

Responsibilities will be expected to be developed and finalised over time and will include but will not be restricted to:
  • Providing administrative support to the Governance Team as required including arranging and supporting internal and external meetings (including identifying dates, booking venues, catering, travel and hotel arrangements for board trustees and committee members, collating and distributing papers)
  • Managing the expenditure process by raising e-requisitions, monitoring purchase orders, invoices, payments and processing expense claims, working with external suppliers as required
  • Providing support to the Jisc board and supporting committees by ensuring that our online board paper environment (Board Packs) and communication methods such as Jiscmail lists utilised by the board and committees are up to date and accurate
  • Maintaining the company register of interests and gift register under the guidance of the Deputy Company Secretary
  • Assisting the Executive Leadership Team with supporting the Jisc board and committees by ensuring that meetings and deadlines for papers are scheduled in good time
  • Inputting details of core funding body income into our contracts system and monitoring receipt of payments against the expected profile
  • Contributing to adhoc internal governance projects as necessary.

The team:

We work to support our governance structure - which means ensuring that our board of trustees and board committees receive accurate and high-quality information to ensure informed decision making.

We ensure that Jisc and its subsidiary companies are compliant with company and charity law, with documents and reports completed with accuracy and filed on time and appropriate policies in place to support the business.

Central to our role is building relationships - with colleagues across Jisc, our trustees and committee members and the teams of people who work to support them.

Why work at Jisc

We want to make sure our people have the flexibility they need to balance their personal lives and do well at work. So, we focus on outputs rather than presenteeism and are open to a whole range of ways of working including flexible hours and working from home.

We’re always learning and developing. All our people have access to a huge variety of learning resources to help them achieve this.

Our benefits are great too:
  • We offer 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays and 3 days Christmas closure)
  • Simply health - a health cash plan
  • You have the option to join the generous USS pension scheme
  • We provide discounts on IT equipment, a cycle to work scheme and season ticket loans
  • We also offer generous parental leave arrangements, career breaks and volunteer leave

Connecting with each other is a doddle, thanks to our technology, but getting face to face is something we value and find time for when we can, so you may need to travel on occasion. Our main offices are in Bristol, Harwell, London and Manchester.
