Your new school

The School is the second most over-subscribed school in Manchester and one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country. It is an all-through (3-18) Academy of over 1450 pupils with a wide range of abilities, ethnicities and backgrounds.

The Academy has a relatively new Sixth Form Centre, a two-form entry Primary Phase and has specialist rooms in the Secondary Phase, including fully equipped science labs, a library, ICT resource centre, music practice rooms, design, technology and art rooms. There is also a sports hall with changing facilities, along with full kitchen and dining facilities in the Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form.Inspectors judged the school to be Good in all phases in its most recent inspection, May 2019

Your new role

An opportunity has arisen for a Learning and Attendance Mentor to join the Primary Phase Team at the School, a 3-18 Academy. It has over 1500 students in total (470 in the Primary Phase) and approximately 200 members of staff (50 in the Primary Phase). We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and particularly those committed to diversity and inclusion.This is a full time, term-time only position and the successful candidate will provide a complementary service to teachers and pastoral staff to support primary-aged children in and out of the classroom. Reporting to the Office Manager, responsibilities will include:
  • Contributing to the identification of those students who would benefit most from a learning mentor and, working with others, drawing up and implementing interventions for these pupils to develop socially, emotionally and behaviourally.
  • Working closely with the Primary Phase Headteacher, Primary Phase Deputy Head and Office Manager to ensure that the needs of all identified students are met.
  • Liaising with the Attendance Team and Safeguarding Team to develop a range of activities, courses, opportunities, organisations and individuals that could be drawn upon to provide extra support for students.
  • Contributing to the successful running of the Primary Phase office.


What you'll need to succeed

We are looking for someone with:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with sound administrative ability and attention to detail.
  • A good standard of education (at least A Level) with high GCSE grades in English and Maths.
  • Experience of working with primary and/or secondary aged children and ability to establish good relationships whilst setting firm boundaries. Also experience of working with families/care, knowledge of child development and issues relating to social exclusion.
  • Computer literacy, SIMS knowledge and experience of Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to prioritise, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines but always with a concern for quality
