The Valleys Regional Park (VRP) has been developed through the Welsh Government Ministerial Taskforce for the Valleys in partnership with the Valleys local authorities, Natural Resources Wales, Visit Wales and Welsh Government policy colleagues in Health and Environment Divisions.

It reflects the views of stakeholders from Valleys communities, the Third Sector, Public Health Wales and feedback received through a series of engagement events.

Further information on the Valleys Regional Park can be found on the website:

Using a whole Valleys approach, The Valleys Regional Park (VRP) is here to connect people and place, bringing together the health of the land, the people and the economy in everything that we do. The aims are that;

• The Valleys landscape is recognised for its quality through a regional commitment to co-ordinated promotion and management

• People are re-connected to the Valleys landscape for their wellbeing, so that it becomes a place for exercise, work, relaxation and nature, as well as for arts and heritage, and for education.

• The Valleys landscape underpins a resilient local economy, supporting businesses, community enterprise and the development of skills and learning.

It is intended that the VRP will provide and sustain the improvement and management of a highly visible network of uplands, woodlands, nature reserves and country parks, rivers, reservoirs and canals, heritage sites and attractions across the Valleys, linking with the towns and villages.

Based on previous experience, best practice research, and extensive engagement through the Valleys Taskforce, the Valleys Regional Park has three interlinked delivery themes:

• Landscape, Culture and Identity

• Recreation and Wellbeing

• Communities and Enterprise

Bridgend County Borough Council will host the development phase working in partnership with 12 other local authorities across the south Wales region. The work is funded through the European Social Fund and Welsh Government and will deliver;

• The long governance, funding and operating model for the regional management of the Valleys landscape including consideration of a land designation for the Valleys

• A regional approach to the use of social prescribing and the delivery of wellbeing activities

• Regional peer-to-peer networking to support community led development of landscape and heritage assets

• Pilot projects relating to green spaces that can be replicated on a regional basis

• The sharing of best practice in relation to landscape based activity

To do this BCBC is recruiting a Business and Partnership co-ordinator. This role will support the Strategic and Operational lead and work with the three theme Convenors and Communications and Marketing Officer.

The delivery of the VRP will be based on a partnership approach. It will be overseen by a Board made up of the leaders of the partner authorities based on the approach to regional working developed through the Cardiff Capital Region. An Executive Group will operates below the Board level involving representatives from the key public sector partners in order to provide strategic and operational direction to the VRP.

All posts will be offered on a secondment or fixed term basis to the end of the funding period of June 2023. If the post is filled on secondment the post-holder will return to their organisation at the end of the funded period. Whilst Bridgend County Borough Council will host the team, opportunities will be available to hot desk across the VRP area and to work from home.

If you are interested in any of the roles and would like an informal discussion please contact Phil Lewis, VRP Strategic Lead, 07817 732710.

Closing Date: Wednesday 20 January 2021
