Wiltshire Council operates a 0-25yr disability social work service that aims to improve outcomes and make a positive difference to the lives of children and young people with disabilities and their families, who require ongoing support and intervention.

The team are based in Chippenham with access to offices across the county (due to latest restrictions home working is in place). We cover a large area of Wiltshire and regular travel across the local authority is required at times. You will have responsibility for Children in Need, those Looked After and children on a child protection plan.

Being part of the Children in Care and Young People’s Service, you will also have responsibility for young adults with disabilities up to 25yrs under the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005. You will develop close working relationships with colleagues in adults’ services to aid smooth transitions for young people It is essential that you have substantive experience in statutory children’s safeguarding work, as well as some experience and knowledge of work with disabled young adults post 18 yrs. Knowledge and experience of working with disabled children and young people is essential.

You will manage, lead and coordinate the work of the team and keep the team updated with social work interventions, practice developments, new legislation and procedures, including the Children’s Act 2004, Children & Families Act 2014, Social Work Act 2017, The Care Act 2014, and the Mental Capacity Act.
