An exciting opportunity to work within Public Sector based in Plymouth, Britain's Ocean City.
We are looking for an experienced and qualified Legal Assistant. You will be working a 37 hour week, Monday to Friday, with a competitive hourly rate of £12.20.
This will be a predominantly home based role due to COVID-19, although some flexibility will be required to travel to Plymouth as the situation changes.
The general duties could include the following:

Managing a debt recovery caseload
Managing court proceedings / Drafting applications
You will be comfortable with investigatory work as part of the debt recovery process. This will include letter writing, email and telephone correspondence.
Prepare or assist with the preparation of civil and criminal litigation, to include taking witness statements and preparing court bundles, including instruction to Counsel
Formally represent the Authority as an advocate in contested summary prosecutions, interim applications for triable either way offences and all civil applications arising in the Debt Recovery team.
Research law and case precedents in relation to the case, assessing risks and outcomes and all parties liabilities.
Under supervision, provide bespoke legal advice and assistance to relevant departments aiming to provide appropriate legal solutions.

The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge and experience ;
Demonstrable experience of debt recovery.
Experience of dealing with external partners, such as
the police, Crown Prosecution Service, Probation Service and court
personnel

Demonstrable experience of preparing legal cases / running litigation cases

Experience of providing bespoke legal advice and assistance to officers up to
Head of Service level
Strong understanding of department policy and procedure and developed knowledge of legislation
In-depth research skills
Excellent communication, analytical and research skills
To be considered for this post you should have MILEX & 4 yrs qualifying experience Or a Degree in Law (or non Law Degree & CPE) and demonstrable debt recovery experience.
