Morgan Hunt are currently working with one of the UK's Non-Departmental Public Body, in their search for a temporary FOI Officer (Senior Associate) to ensure the organisation meets its statutory requirements under the Data Protection Act, General Data Protection Regulation, Freedom of Information Act and Environmental Information Regulations

The role will involve handling and responding to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act and the Environmental Information Regulations. In addition, you will also handle Individual Rights Requests and ensure complaints are dealt with effectively and in line with procedures and guidance.

The role would be perfect for someone with strong experience and knowledge around information-based legislation including FOI Act, EIRs, Data Protection law (DPA and GDPR) and experience handling FOI requests. The successful post-holder will be an organised, professional and motivated individual with experience across the Public Sector.

Job Title: FOI Officer (Senior Associate)

Location: Remotely

Hourly Rate: £16.00 - £21.00 PAYE

Job Type: Temporary (Until 31st March - potential extension)

Hours: Full-time/Part-time (up to 36 hours per week)

Start Date: ASAP

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of competing priorities, whilst ensuring all responses are accurate in line with statutory timescales and other deadlines
  • Ensure legislation is accurately applied and best practice is followed.
  • Provide pragmatic and risk-based advice to colleagues on the application of the data protection principles and other areas of data protection compliance.
  • Take steps to resolve data protection issues and reduce risks (including conducting risk assessment of new projects)
  • Build relationships and engage teams to deliver timely, well-informed, professional and accurate responses to external enquires
  • Identify and manage risks relating to high-profile, sensitive or confidential requests, with integrity
  • Maintain high level of organisation and ensuring record keeping is to an excellent standard
  • Record keeping and report production will include: case management system, activity logs, issue logs, risk reports, compliance reports, incidents and investigations

Personal Specification
  • Substantial knowledge and experience of the statutory and procedural workings of the Freedom of Information Act
  • Ability to apply sections of legislation or guidance to real world scenarios
  • Strong understanding of data protection legislation and experience in data protection.
  • BCS/ISEB/IAPP qualifications or equivalent are an advantage
  • Strong Microsoft Suite skills (particularly data spreadsheets) and ability to use redaction software
  • Positive, motivated, flexible and customer-centric self-starter
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to collate, analyse, interpret and present information from a range of sources
  • Ability to form and maintain strong working relationships
  • Exercise high attention to details and level of accuracy
  • Organisational and prioritisation skills
