With increasing public and sectoral expectations in telecoms and the digital economy, where technological change is moving at a rapid pace, and with the challenges that face us from exiting the European Union, there has never been a more exciting time to join the Department for Media, Culture and Sport and play a major role in influencing sectors of industry that are of primary importance to the UK economy.

The Director for Telecoms and the Director for Digital Economy are each responsible for an agenda which aims to equip the nation with the skills and technology it needs to create tomorrow’s world-leading digital businesses. The Prime Minister has a keen interest in and a fast-growing policy ambition for these agendas.

As Director for Telecoms you will be trusted to set the overall vision and direction for the UK’s future digital connectivity, as well as managing Government’s relationship with the telecoms sector and overseeing telecoms policy.  Increasingly, digital connectivity is a seen as a right, and is widely recognised as essential for improved productivity and growth. Supported by a large team you will develop a strategy to stay ahead of these challenges, ensuring that our digital infrastructure not only meets the needs of consumers now, but is set up to deliver the connectivity of the future.

As Director for Digital Economy you will lead on Government policy to support the technology sector, ensure digital skills provision (including cyber skills), tackle digital exclusion, ensure proper management of data across the economy and foster wide digital innovation to drive productivity.  In doing so, you will set an overarching strategic vision that secures the UK’s place as a digital leader and the best place to do business in a digital world, while also ensuring that the digital economy works for all.

Both roles will be key members of the Department’s senior leadership team and play an active part in the ongoing corporate management and development of the organisation.
